After nearly 18 months of uncertainty through both the pandemic and the exit from the EU, we are seeing really positive signs of recovery within our engineering, manufacturing and technology client base. Vacancy numbers are increasing week on week with new projects being announced and industry getting used to the new normal as lockdown easing takes effect.
The pandemic drove the use of existing and new technology in the engineering and manufacturing sectors and in recruitment we had to follow suit. Many of the changes are here to stay and the way we work has changed with the implementation of this technology, but it has also served as a timely reminder of the importance of having the right people.
At Jonathan Lee, our people are our business; our staff, contractors, candidates and clients remain at the heart of everything we do. While technology has changed the way we work and communicate, for us it will never replace the personal service needed to thoroughly understand a client’s needs for skills and cultural fit, and to source appropriate candidates.
Jon Blaze, Director of Jonathan Lee Recruitment and Jonathan Lee Design Services, joined the business in 2002 and has seen the company innovate and adapt through good times and bad, to meet the opportunities and challenges of today’s talent sourcing landscape.
THE BENEFITS OF TECHNOLOGY
If we learned anything over the last months, it is that technology is critical to business continuity and the ability to find and engage with the right people quickly and effectively.
We are constantly looking at what is out there to support our consultants and to improve the accuracy of our sourcing and communication activity. Artificial intelligence has a huge role to play in this but our stance is that it will never replace recruitment consultants, we firmly believe that AI will support the right staff to locate and engage with talent across the multiple channels that candidates use.
We do not see AI being an effective substitute for the human interaction that matches candidates to a client’s need and vice versa. Rather, it is an enabler for keeping data fresh and relevant as a starting point for human interaction. Our consultants understand both the technical aspects and the softer skills of the roles and clients they service.
A CULTURE OF SUPPORT & EMPOWERMENT
We are very proud of our culture which is extremely supportive and promotes teamworking, a can-do attitude, family spirit, professional attitude and a good work/life balance. We evolve our working model to allow our people to work in the most effective way possible, including the introduction of flexible hours, blended working models and initiatives around annual leave. In order to promote this culture and attract and retain key talent, our brand is key to attracting people and we try to ensure that work is fun. Our employees will stay with us whilst they remain happy and we continue to be successful.
When it comes to adding new talent to the business, we seek people with a good attitude, empathy and crucially, an ability to understand our technical and commercial markets.
RECRUITMENT: A CAREER, NOT JUST A JOB
There is so much opportunity for career development and growth in the recruitment sector, which has shaken off many of the stereotypes of the past. We commit to giving our people the opportunity to flourish with leading technology that sets us apart from our competition in an environment that is welcoming, challenging and motivating with a mix of financial and non-financial rewards to suit a range of preferences and lifestyle choices.
Our team is focused on people; whether it is winning new business and helping clients, assisting candidates to fulfil their career goals or seeing our own team members progress and develop, our mission is to deliver solutions that help people to succeed and organisations to flourish, contributing to a better future for everyone. I believe any successful business needs to differentiate itself from its competitors and provide the service that is needed in each unique scenario. Having excellent people in the business is the defining factor in achieving this.
Looking to the future for Jonathan Lee Recruitment, we are focused on strengthening our key markets, growing our permanent, search and selection and contract recruitment services and contributing to a more sustainable future. We need the right people to join us in order to keep moving towards these goals.
