Proving Test Technician - Peterborough - Up to £27/hr - Inside IR35 - 12 month rolling contract

Do you have experience working on heavy vehicle, HGV or plant machinery? Jonathan Lee Recruitment is helping available for one of the world’s leading manufacturers of off-highway machinery and diesel and natural gas engines recruit a Proving Test Technician, and the role comes with a contract rate of £27.00 per hour.

As a Proving Test Technician, you will be involved in various powertrain installation projects for off-highway machines.

In your first few weeks in this Proving Test Technician role, you can expect to:

  • Operate a multitude of different off-highway vehicles including but not limited to, Hydraulic Excavators, Back-hoe Loaders, Telehandlers, Track Type Tractors where required
  • Instrument powertrains installations with, thermocouples, pressure transducers, speed pickups and other forms of sensors
  • Perform safe and defect free assembly of parts and components, using various hand, power tools and lifting equipment
  • Manufacture parts from drawings using in house facilities (machining, welding and fabrication and fully equipped electronics lab)
  • Diagnose and fix a range of faults on both powertrains and machine
  • Produce electrical looms to interface powertrain amd machine.
  • Work from engineering drawings (electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic)

To apply for this Proving Test Technician role, you will need a demonstrable understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical/electronic systems with a good working knowledge of powertrains and machines. You will also require the following:

  • Hands on mechanical / electrical skill set and able to use a variety of hand tools, lifting and welding equipment
  • A good working knowledge of instrumentation and its application.
  • Applicants will ideally have an engineering or motor mechanics apprenticeship and some relevant work experience.
  • Working towards or completed some form of relevant higher education (NVQ Level 3).
  • EV Background – Knowledge and understanding of EV systems and hands on experience (preferred)

The Team is responsible for the development and implementation of electrical and electronic control systems for powertrains developed by our client in the UK.

This role is for the primary technical support for the Engine Electronic system. It will entail proactively working with other Electronics team members and with development partners, on the complete product development lifecycle of Development prior to production through to post-production maintenance to:

  • Participate in the definition of the system architecture and related diagrams and schematics.
  • Participate in the selection of suitable Electronic components.
  • Participate in the failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) and validation activities for the Electronic system and components. Maintaining & improve validation test plans.
  • Provide technical support to queries related to pinouts, schematic questions and software functionality support.
  • Investigate /Analyse / troubleshoot any reported quality issues.

  • Electronics related Degree, or HNC Level + detailed experience.
  • Detailed understanding of electronic engine systems.
