50 not out – Pete’s Wrekin 100 challenge update

The Jonathan Lee blog section is a great place to discover all the latest news and views on the
sectors we work with and the services we provide.

We’re thrilled to bring you the latest update on Peter Heap’s remarkable endeavour as he completes his 50th ascent of the Wrekin, marking the halfway point of his ambitious Wrekin 100 Challenge. This milestone is not just a testament to his physical endurance, but also to his unwavering dedication to a cause close to his heart.

Joining Forces with Fellow Veterans

For this special walk, Pete was joined by two of his friends and fellow veterans, Tom Basford and Colin Nightingale, both ex-REME, and Tom’s dog Panther! The camaraderie and shared experiences turned the hike from a simple physical challenge into a profound journey down memory lane. Their bond and shared history added a significant layer of meaning to the climb, reminding us all of the strength and solidarity among those who have served.

A Humorous Reflection

Amidst the stunning views and challenging terrain, Pete couldn’t help but joke, “I wish I had signed up for 50 walks instead of 100!” His light-hearted remark underscores the true spirit of this challenge – both a physical feat and one of mental resilience. Pete’s sense of humour and determination are inspiring, and his light-hearted approach to the daunting goal is a reminder that with the right mindset, anything is possible.

Why Pete’s Challenge Matters

Pete’s Wrekin 100 Challenge is more than just a personal goal; it’s a mission to raise awareness and funds for a cause that supports our veterans. The funds raised will go to  The Veterans Café and Wellbeing Hub, Telford Mind, which offers a space for military veterans to meet and talk to like-minded people with similar day-to-day issues. The café aims to bring the veteran community together and for members of all ages to get support where needed.
