Pete’s Wrekin 100 challenge – Quarter milestone ticked off

The Jonathan Lee blog section is a great place to discover all the latest news and views on the
sectors we work with and the services we provide.

In February 2024, Principal Recruitment Consultant and Armed Forces Covenant Champion Peter Heap set himself a challenge – to climb the 1,334ft Wrekin Hill in Shropshire 100 times in 2024 to raise money for Telford Mind’s Veterans Café.

Three months into his Wrekin 100 challenge and we’re delighted to share he has just completed his 25th (and 26th) hill climbs meaning he is over a quarter of a way to achieving his goal!

Pete said of his progress so far ‘I’m delighted to have passed the 25-climb milestone, I feel like I know the Wrekin like the back of my hand now! I can tell you where every bit of loose rubble is and what parts of the path to avoid! I have seen all sides of the UK weather too, I even saw this big yellow light in the sky over the Bank Holiday weekend, I think it’s called the sun!’

Pete continues ‘There are times when the climbs have been hard and I have had to drag myself up the hill after work or late at night but when the going gets tough I remember why I’m doing this – to raise money for The Veterans Wellbeing Hub, it is such a fantastic service offered by Telford Mind and as a Veteran myself with 20 years of service, I really do appreciate and see the benefit of a place you can go to and talk to someone that just knows and understands,  It’s a great place to get support, advice or to find someone to listen.’

As Pete says The Veterans Cafe and Wellbeing Hub offers a space for Military Veterans to meet and talk to like-minded people with similar day-to-day issues. The Cafe aims to bring the Veteran community together and allow veterans, of all ages, to get support where needed.

Pete continues ‘Thanks so much for all the support and donations so far, I’m delighted that I’ve helped raise over £600 so far, and of course, as someone who likes to set himself goals, I want to break the £1,000 barrier now! If you can afford to donate it would be much appreciated.’ To donate to Pete’s fundraiser click here.

‘Another thing I’m delighted to share is that I will not be alone on some of my future walks! I wasn’t quite expecting the amount of fellow Veterans (many of whom I served with), and Jonathan Lee Recruitment colleagues who have pledged to climb with me on future walks – Thank you, it is much appreciated and I’m very much looking forward to sharing the Wrekin Hills with you and of course, if there is anyone else who I know that is up for the challenge and wants to join me for a future climb, please do get in touch.’

Keep going Pete and well done from all at Jonathan Lee Recruitment.
