A huge congratulations to Simon Roberts, Associate Director of Jonathan Lee Recruitment Search & Selection, on reaching an incredible milestone—30 years with Jonathan Lee Recruitment!
Simon started his journey with the company in 1994, the same year Nelson Mandela became President of South Africa and the Channel Tunnel first opened. (Sorry for the nostalgia, Simon!)
Simon is a fully indentured EITB Apprentice. After serving his time as a Precision Engineer within the machine tool industry, he went on to complete a Bachelor of Science degree in Design and Technology with Education at Brunel University and later, his MSc in Advanced Manufacturing at Cranfield University specializing in advanced machine tool design.
He is a Chartered Engineer with the IET and has been a Chartered Member of the CIPD for over 20 years. With 30 years’ experience in technical recruitment, Simon now specialises in senior management and executive-level appointments in the engineering, manufacturing and technology sectors in his role as Associate Director of Jonathan Lee Recruitment Search & Selection.
He covers retained and exclusive assignments for both general management and Board-level roles as well as highly skilled technical leadership positions.

Simon says of his milestone “It’s absolutely flown by, and it’s been an interesting and rewarding 30 years.
What I’ve enjoyed most is working with some incredible people many that I now call friends.
An early background working as an EITB technician apprentice and then as a machine tool fitter was an eye opener and gave me a real perspective on understanding people but also a keen interest in technology which took me to university to learn more.
Recruitment has given me the opportunity to work with and meet some excellent engineers and senior managers working for some truly amazing companies. I have really enjoyed working with clients and helping them recruit people who have made a real difference to their businesses.
The latest advances in AI, big data management, quantum computing and advanced simulation techniques is truly fascinating, and the pace of change is ever-increasing. I don’t think there has ever been a more exciting time to get into engineering and manufacturing and yet many manufacturing companies in the UK are struggling to attract and find good engineers.
The world of recruitment has changed along with technology, but the base fundamentals of understanding clients’ requirements and understanding candidates’ experience and needs will always remain.
It’s all about understanding people and their capabilities and seeing them succeed which makes a career in recruitment so interesting and rewarding.”
