About Thermit Welding

Established in London in 1904 by the Goldschmidt Company, Thermit Welding (GB) Limited has a rich history. In 1919, Elektro-Thermit GmbH was formed in Essen, focusing on the Aluminothermic business. In 1958, Thermit Welding (GB) Ltd emerged through a collaboration between Murex Ltd and Elektro-Thermit GmbH, based in Rainham, Essex. Following corporate changes, the Goldschmidt Thermit Group regained full ownership in 2000, now comprising over 20 companies dedicated to Thermit Welding processes.

Today, Thermit Welding is a key rail industry supplier, continuously innovating products and welding methods. The company invests in new production techniques, Research and Development, on-site training, technical support, and specialised contract services.

With a 120-year legacy, Thermit's operations include sales, production, stocking, distribution, quality control, engineering and equipment development.  These functions are shared between their head office in Rainham and their Derby office.
