What You Will Bring:
- Proficiency in programming languages such as CAPL, Python, and C++.
- Expertise in CAN/FlexRay/LIN/Ethernet communication protocols, including tools like CANoe and CANalyzer.
- Strong experience with data analysis tools like AVL Concerto, Tableau, and Minitab.
- Comprehensive understanding of High Voltage powertrain systems and HV Battery technologies.
- A structured problem-solving approach and a strong knowledge of Health and Safety requirements.
- A full UK driving license with less than 6 penalty points, no disqualifications.

About the Role

An opportunity has arisen for Mechanical Operator and Calibration Technician to join an Aerospace and Defence Organisation within the Milton Keynes area. The successful Mechanical Operator and Calibration Technician whose primary function will be to operate test facilities in a safe, efficient manner, consistent with the needs of customer test requirements. The Mechanical Operator and Calibration Technician duties may include equipment calibration, the set-up of specialized measurement/monitoring equipment, model assembly for test, troubleshooting, making, and implementing agreed recommendations for improvement and test execution. The main test facility will be the place of work ,but there are complementary facilities which the position of this Mechanical Operator and Calibration Technician will also cover.
Typical hours: Full-time, 40-hour per week (shift work may be required on a rotating weekly basis)
Responsibilities Required for Mechanical Operator and Calibration Technician
- General departmental duties e.g. record maintenance, model storage, organization of equipment, rig maintenance, etc.
- Working within a team environment in the preparation and assembly of models and rigs for testing to defined quality standards, considering schedule and costs.
- Maintenance, calibration and quality control of rigs, facilities, and associated equipment.
- Preparation and installation of specialist optical measurement systems in test facilities.
- Operating the main facility and operating complementary test facilities as required.
- Making recommendations for design, process, or hardware modifications to support continuous improvement.
- Operation and development of test facilities, rigs, and equipment, including the operation of control systems directly associated with the facilities and specialist rigs.
- Undertaking training, where necessary, in support of the above duties, to ensure safe working practices (e.g. forklift, facility operation, manual handling, confined spaces, etc).
Skills, Qualifications and Knowledge Required for Mechanical Operator and Calibration Technician
- Experienced time served technician, preferably HNC/HND Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with hands on experience of specialist equipment or facilities.
- Solid background in mechanical engineering and an appreciation of other engineering disciplines such as instrumentation, control systems, high pressure hydraulics or pneumatics.
- Exposure in working within an R&D and/or commercial environment.
- Experience of working on small precision assemblies.
- Team player, capable of coaching and mentoring less experienced employees as well as supervision of ‘young hires’ as required.
- Flexible and positive attitude, with drive, commitment, and willingness to go that extra mile to meet deadlines/schedules.
- Attention to detail of quality of work whilst maintaining a clean, safe working environment.

What you’ll be doing
As a key member of the Manufacturing Engineering team, you will:
- Take ownership of designated processes, driving efficiency, quality, and throughput improvements.
- Identify and eliminate waste while embedding continuous improvement (CI) practices.
- Lead or support New Product Introduction (NPI) projects, ensuring smooth integration into production.
- Support Capability Acquisition (CA) by implementing new technologies and processes.
- Develop and maintain process documentation such as flow diagrams, PFMEAs, control plans, and SOPs.
- Champion standardization and compliance to quality and operational standards.
- Initiate and manage shopfloor improvement projects with clear scope, timelines, and deliverables.
- Monitor and analyse production KPIs to support data-driven decision making.
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Technical, and Quality teams to align improvements with wider business objectives.
What we’re looking for
- Degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline.
- At least 3 years’ experience in Manufacturing, Process, or Chemical Engineering (experience in leather or textiles manufacturing is a bonus).
- Skilled in structured problem-solving (Root Cause Analysis, A3, 8D, Six Sigma, DMAIC, or PDCA).
- Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement tools.
- Proficiency in process control and built-in-quality tools (PFMEAs, control plans, capability studies).
- Ability to apply statistical analysis techniques (Minitab or similar software experience desirable).
- Proven project management skills, leading independently or in cross-functional teams.
