Overview:
A leading energy provider is seeking an Electrical Engineer to join its Engineering department at a major power generation site.
The role will be responsible for safeguarding the long-term integrity of all HV and LV electrical systems, ensuring the highest standards of safety, reliability, technical excellence, and legal compliance.
The successful candidate will act as a subject matter expert, providing specialist support, guidance, and technical advice to Engineering and Maintenance teams, while driving long-term planning and through-life management — including obsolescence strategies — for the site’s electrical infrastructure and systems.
The Role:
This role sits within one of the UK and Ireland’s largest independent power generators, operating a diverse portfolio of renewable, flexible, and conventional generation assets. Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with internal Electrical Engineering Technical Procedures and all relevant legislation.
- Define maintenance and inspection requirements for electrical systems.
- Identify, specify, and manage electrical-focused contracts, including contractor performance and safety.
- Contribute to the rolling 5-year business plan for electrical systems, including budget management and phasing of expenditure.
- Plan and lead electrical inspection works during scheduled outages to maintain integrity, reliability, and compliance.
- Provide specialist electrical expertise and advice on both short-term operational issues and long-term asset strategy.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Technical Background
- Strong knowledge and practical experience with HV and LV electrical systems, including transmission and distribution.
- Expertise in HV and LV protection systems.
- Experience in DSEAR management and compliance.

Based from a hybrid position but working closely with the manufacturing operation in Manchester, candidates should have an existing expertise as a Senior Fire Engineer / Fire Safety Advisor / Passive Fire Protection Inspector / Fire Engineer and be versed in the current technical standards and requirements. You will ideally have a good working knowledge of Approved Document B and relating sector requirements.
As a subject matter expert, you will be tasked with specifying and providing technical guidance relating to passive fire protection products and work to support successful market involvement. This is not a sales position but is to support the further market development, technical support and engagement, as well as the success of the organisation in the UK and potentially internationally.
Role Duties
- Work closely with the commercial team to answer technical questions
- Provide specification advice to enable correct use of their products
- Attend meeting (F2F / teams) with project stakeholders including Architects, Main Contractors, Fire Engineer, Subcontractors and Building Control
- Manage a team of 2 site support specialists (Technical Advisors)
- Visit site to provide installation advice and inspections
- Provide toolbox talks to demonstrate installation methods around passive fire protection on live projects, in particular within external wall cladding systems.
- Inspect sites to ensure compliance with specifications and installation requirements including taking measurements, photographs and data capture, followed by site reports.
- Support cross functional teams on new product introduction and product development
