Project Director / Director of Project Management - Transformers 400KV

Role Overview: 

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Project Director to work for our client at their facility in London, the role will provide strategic leadership, oversight, and direction across the full lifecycle of transformer and GIS projects.

The role will be involved from sales handover through design review, factory audits, installation, commissioning, and long-term maintenance, this is an exciting role that will ensures safe, timely, and compliant project delivery for key clients, including National Grid and Scottish Power, while driving excellence in execution, client satisfaction, and business growth.

As the senior point of contact, the Director will guide and mentor internal project managers, coordinate with contractors and partners, and represent the company to clients and stakeholders at the highest level.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Oversight & Delivery

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of transformer and GIS projects, from design review through lifecycle maintenance.
  • Approve project plans, budgets, schedules, and progress reports.
  • Chair weekly project reviews to monitor risks, performance, and improvement opportunities.
  • Ensure projects meet safety, technical, commercial, and regulatory requirements.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Act as the senior client-facing representative, maintaining strong relationships with National Grid, Scottish Power, and other key customers.
  • Lead client review meetings, ensuring all requirements are understood, agreed, and delivered.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, logistics providers, and installation contractors to resolve operational challenges.
  • Ensure client feedback is integrated into project delivery and future improvements.

Technical & Quality Assurance

  • Oversee and participate in factory acceptance testing (FAT) and audits, ensuring compliance with specifications and quality standards.
  • Drive adherence to industry regulations, client standards, and company HSE policies.
  • Promote a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement across all projects.

Leadership & Internal Direction

  • Mentor and coach project managers and engineering teams, fostering professional growth.
  • Align project execution with business objectives and strategic growth plans.
  • Support the sales team during contract handover, ensuring smooth project mobilisation.
  • Strengthen collaboration across engineering, procurement, and operations functions.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Extensive experience delivering transformer and GIS installation, commissioning, and maintenance projects, ideally with DNOs.
  • Strong track record in end-to-end project delivery, including design review, FATs, installation, and lifecycle support.
  • Proven ability to manage contractors, suppliers, and logistics partners.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Professional certification in project management (PMP, PRINCE2, APM) preferred.

Overview:

We are currently recruiting for a Project Design Engineer, to work for our client at their site in Kidderminster, this is an exciting opportunity that has arisen and would suit someone who is a self-motivated individual who would like to join their established Engineering department.

The role will be responsible for various ongoing projects including the cost-effective design, material procurement, instigation, control and compilation and submission of all associated engineering documentation.

Job Summary:

  • Shall be fully committed to the achievement of the company policies and objectives with attention to quality, safety & environment
  • Will undertake reasonable instructions from senior personnel in the best interests of the company
  • Assisting Sales in the preparation of quotation drawings/documentation (workload permitting)
  • Assisting in the development of new equipment/new product ranges (workload permitting)
  • Assisting in the creation of standard 3D models and library parts (workload permitting)
  • Creating cost effective designs by integration of common parts and standardisation of components
  • Producing General Arrangement drawings, Manufacturing drawings and Technical Specifications
  • Producing 3D models for estimating weights, volumes, interferences, determining complex geometry, etc.
  • Verification of designs by calculations and/or FEA/CFD (analysis to be carried out under supervision)
  • Designing products that are safe and in accordance with Health & Safely legislation
  • Designing products that comply with applicable design codes, e.g. ASME VIII, ASME B31.3, etc.
  • Designing products that comply with applicable governing legislation, e.g. 2014/68/EU (PED)
  • Producing material requisitions to ensure all material/quantity/technical requirements are identified
  • Using standard components and referencing part numbers from the company system, where possible
  • Instigation and ongoing control of projects/contracts from Sales hand-over through to delivery.
  • Organisation of the duties, tasks & workload of engineers assisting on larger contracts.
  • Liaison with Quality/Production to ensure ‘sub-contract’ and ‘in-house’ activity is considered and controlled
  • Supervising workshop personnel and/or sub-contractors, as required Documentation
  • Organisation and preparation of all engineering documentation requirements, as required by the contract
  • Submission of required contract documentation to client/third party, via the Documentation department

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Minimum GCSE Grade 5 (equivalent grade C) or higher in Maths & English
  • HNC in Mechanical Engineering essential
  • Essential knowledge of Microsoft packages (Outlook, Word, Excel) required
  • Experience using Adobe Acrobat
  • AutoCad experience essential SolidWorks & 3D Modelling
  • ASME PV code knowledge preferred (i.e. ASME VIII)
  • Knowledge of manufacturing, welding, piping and materials essential
  • Experience of working within the Oil & Gas industry preferred
  • Experience of filters, strainers and pressure vessels preferred.

Job Title: Application Engineer

Overview:

We are currently recruiting for an Applications Engineer to work for our client at their site in Borehamwood, the role will report to the Technical Manager and undertake a variety of engineering tasks including the review and design of steam, thermal fluid, thermal oxidiser and process air heating systems to lead to the generation of detailed technical and commercial sales proposals.

The role:

  • Reporting to the Technical Manager you will be working with the Company’s Technical Services Engineers, Contracts Engineers and Field Sales Engineers and interacting with colleagues at our production facilities.
  • Key tasks include day-to-day responsibility for the generation of technically and commercially attractive quotations through the assessment of customer requirements and the use of in-house software to select key components and equipment to meet a specified process need.  This will include system flow and pipe work pressure drop calculations to ensure the accurate application of the Company’s range of Steam Generators, Fire Tube Steam Boilers, high temperature Thermal Fluid Heaters, Process Air Heaters and Gaseous Effluent Thermal Oxidisers.
  • Other important tasks will include the completion of project engineering checks and the preparation of commissioning specifications, along with providing pre and post sales applications support to the Company’s External Sales and Internal Engineering functions.
  • In addition to the above mentioned tasks, and depending on the workload in Contracts Department, there will be a requirement from time to time to carry out the role of Contracts Engineer to balance the demands within the departments and to gain and maintain familiarity with the procedures and requirements of the Contracts Department.

The Candidate:

  • The ideal candidate will hold a minimum of HNC or equivalent in Chemical, Mechanical or a Process Engineering discipline with experience in a compatible industry or a manufacturer of related equipment.
  • Candidates qualified to Graduate/HNC level with less experience but with clear potential will also be considered.
  •  This is a demanding and rewarding position which will allow the successful candidate to develop within a large industrial group. Remuneration will be discussed at the point of offer and will be commensurate with the level of qualification and experience, plus paid overtime when required.  A contributory pension scheme which includes life and critical health cover all add to the benefits of this role. 

Other information:

  • Normal working hours are from 9.00am to 5.30pm Monday to Thursday with 45 min lunch and Friday 9.00am to 4.30pm with a lunch break of 60 minutes.
  • Holidays are 25 days per year rising to 26 days after 5 years
  • Competitive salary per annum plus paid overtime when required. 
  • There is a profit related bonus scheme in operation which is designed to pay an additional amount of up to 5% of basic salary dependant on the overall performance of the Company.

Electrical Design Engineer

Overview:

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Electrical Design Engineer to work for our client at their offices in Borehamwood, this exciting opportunity is reporting to the Technical & Quality Manager.  The role will take responsibility for progressing the electrical and associated mechanical aspects of contracts through Engineering and Works across all project phases. The Electrical Engineer will manage the electrical component of projects for equipment supply and turnkey installations, working with colleagues in Process Engineering and Service Divisions to bring projects to commercial and technical completion within contract requirements. This Electrical Engineer will involve in design-focused responsibility including creating and revising control circuit designs, site wiring diagrams and panel layouts, using AutoCAD, along with project engineering elements.  

Primary Responsibilities

  • Assist the Production Works Supervisor with progressing contracts through Engineering & Works using the company’s computer system and associated filing.
  • Communicate with cross-functional project team members or departments and collaborate with suppliers and technical departments as needed regarding product design and operation.
  • Progress the electrical engineering of contracts including control circuit design, site wiring diagrams and associated documentation, including compiling manuals.
  • Prepare and revise electrical and associated mechanical drawings including circuit diagrams, panel layout drawings, and site wiring diagrams.
  • Ensure accurate information is gathered and presented to Contracts Engineers to ensure equipment compliance with design data and to enable procurement and manufacture in line with contractual requirements.
  • Prepare and update Technical Service Department documents including standard manual sections, instrument setup and datasheets, and technical communications. Provide product and component selection/use information to colleagues in Contracts and Service Departments.
  • Assist commissioning and service engineers in the office and over the telephone with onsite technical and electrical queries and troubleshooting when required.

Experience:

  • Practical engineering professional with experience in system design within an ISO 9001 quality-driven business.
  • Preferably experienced in electrical engineering services with reference to steam or high-temperature process heating applications (other backgrounds considered).
  • High voltage systems experience advantageous.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD for Electrical Circuit Diagrams, P&IDs, and GA drawings. Knowledge of circuit design applications such as EPLAN or SEE Electrical is beneficial.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite, including SharePoint.
  • Track record of working on medium-sized, technology-oriented, multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Excellent organisational and multi-tasking ability.

Qualifications:

  • Practical engineering skills plus a formal qualification (HNC/HND or Degree) in Electrical Engineering or related field.
  • Experience in a similar role is desirable. Longer experience may be considered an advantage over academic achievement.

Communication Skills:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work within a team environment and communicate effectively at all levels, including with customers and suppliers.
  • Knowledge of a second European language is advantageous but not essential.
