Mechanical Services Design Engineer

Location: Guernsey

Overview:

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • You’ll be at the heart of project delivery, taking designs from concept through to completion:
  • Produce detailed mechanical designs including calculations, specifications, and technical reports aligned with industry standards (British Standards, CIBSE, CiPHE).
  • Create 2D and 3D designs using industry-leading tools, including CAD and BIM (AutoCAD, Revit).
  • Design and coordinate key building systems such as:
  • Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC)
  • Hot and cold-water services
  • Above-ground drainage
  • Air source and ground source heat pumps (ASHP/GSHP)
  • Building Management Systems (BMS)
  • Lead project elements—agreeing scope, deliverables, and timelines with your Line Manager.
  • Support and guide trainee and graduate engineers, helping deliver projects on time and within budget.
  • Conduct site visits including surveys, inspections, and progress reviews, producing clear and professional reports.
  • Prepare cost estimates, tender documentation, and review contractor submissions and variations.
  • Ensure all work complies with Health & Safety legislation, company QA processes, and industry best practice.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver fully coordinated designs.
  • Stay ahead of the curve by keeping up with new technologies and maintaining continuous professional development (CPD).

What We’re Looking For:

  • Proven experience delivering mechanical building services projects from concept through to completion.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  • Confident communicator with excellent written and verbal skills.

  • Proactive, flexible, and solutions-focused approach.
  • Proficiency (or willingness to develop) in tools such as AutoCAD, Revit (BIM), IES, Dialux, SketchUp, and Microsoft Office.
  • Full, clean driving licence.

Qualifications Required?

  • Degree (2:1 or above) in Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
  • NVQ Level 3 in Plumbing & Domestic Heating (City & Guilds).
  • NVQ Level 3 in HVAC, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning (City & Guilds).

Skills and Experience

Proven experience in resource planning, workforce planning, or operations management

Background in utilities, electricity distribution, infrastructure, or construction environments

Strong leadership and team management capability

Experience working with field-based or operational teams

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a data-driven approach

Ability to drive performance improvements and operational efficiency

Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

Degree qualified or equivalent professional experience

Desirable:

PRINCE2 or equivalent project management qualification

IOSH or relevant health and safety certification

Knowledge of electricity distribution networks or utility operations

Job Objectives:
We are currently recruiting for our client at their facility in Tamworth for an experienced Electrical Assembly technician, this is an exciting role involved in wiring and assembly of machinery, including control panel wiring and mechanical assembly/fitting.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Undertake the assembly and manufacture of parts and assemblies to the point where they are complete machines and ready for testing.

Tasks Include:

  • Control panel assembly and wiring
  • Mechanical fitting and assembly of parts, sub-assemblies, and finished machines
  • Plastic parts manufacture
  • Finishing and packaging of completed machines
  • Wiring of chambers
  • Testing of chambers using provided instructions
  • Self-inspection of finished items according to defined methodology
  • Improving assembly methods and practices to reduce costs and minimize waste
  • Ensuring quality work to minimize non-conformities
  • Adhering strictly to provided work instructions and methods
  • Maintaining tidiness, cleanliness, and high standards of housekeeping in own work area and throughout the workshop
  • Training other employees as required
  • Picking and packing of spares orders
  • Any other supportive tasks for production within capability

Required Skills/Qualifications:

  • Competence in general electro-mechanical assembly or finishing operations
  • Competence in wiring control panel installations to best practice standards
  • Competence in pneumatic installations to best practice standards (training can be provided)
  • Competent mechanical fitting skills
  • Skills as defined by a reasonable and achievable future skills matrix
  • Fork truck license advantageous but not essential
