What You Will Do:

Overview:

We are currently recruiting for a Project Design Engineer, to work for our client at their site in Kidderminster, this is an exciting opportunity that has arisen and would suit someone who is a self-motivated individual who would like to join their established Engineering department.

The role will be responsible for various ongoing projects including the cost-effective design, material procurement, instigation, control and compilation and submission of all associated engineering documentation.

Job Summary:

  • Shall be fully committed to the achievement of the company policies and objectives with attention to quality, safety & environment
  • Will undertake reasonable instructions from senior personnel in the best interests of the company
  • Assisting Sales in the preparation of quotation drawings/documentation (workload permitting)
  • Assisting in the development of new equipment/new product ranges (workload permitting)
  • Assisting in the creation of standard 3D models and library parts (workload permitting)
  • Creating cost effective designs by integration of common parts and standardisation of components
  • Producing General Arrangement drawings, Manufacturing drawings and Technical Specifications
  • Producing 3D models for estimating weights, volumes, interferences, determining complex geometry, etc.
  • Verification of designs by calculations and/or FEA/CFD (analysis to be carried out under supervision)
  • Designing products that are safe and in accordance with Health & Safely legislation
  • Designing products that comply with applicable design codes, e.g. ASME VIII, ASME B31.3, etc.
  • Designing products that comply with applicable governing legislation, e.g. 2014/68/EU (PED)
  • Producing material requisitions to ensure all material/quantity/technical requirements are identified
  • Using standard components and referencing part numbers from the company system, where possible
  • Instigation and ongoing control of projects/contracts from Sales hand-over through to delivery.
  • Organisation of the duties, tasks & workload of engineers assisting on larger contracts.
  • Liaison with Quality/Production to ensure ‘sub-contract’ and ‘in-house’ activity is considered and controlled
  • Supervising workshop personnel and/or sub-contractors, as required Documentation
  • Organisation and preparation of all engineering documentation requirements, as required by the contract
  • Submission of required contract documentation to client/third party, via the Documentation department

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Minimum GCSE Grade 5 (equivalent grade C) or higher in Maths & English
  • HNC in Mechanical Engineering essential
  • Essential knowledge of Microsoft packages (Outlook, Word, Excel) required
  • Experience using Adobe Acrobat
  • AutoCad experience essential SolidWorks & 3D Modelling
  • ASME PV code knowledge preferred (i.e. ASME VIII)
  • Knowledge of manufacturing, welding, piping and materials essential
  • Experience of working within the Oil & Gas industry preferred
  • Experience of filters, strainers and pressure vessels preferred.

A CNC Operator is required to join an International Defence Systems company that designs, manufactures, and supports world leading military Systems. The successful CNC Operator will be responsible for setting and operating CNC machines to produce safety critical products that meet strict design and engineering criteria.

The CNC Operator will report to the CNC Team Leader within the CNC Machine Shop. The CNC Operator will be responsible the CNC machinery during operation and the CNC tooling and fixtures (status, usability, and cleanliness) specified for the process and manufacturing activities undertaken.

The CNC Operator will be responsible for the following:

  • To set (tooling and fixtures) and run (proven program) designated CNC resource.
  • Work with defined work instructions, within a defined manufacturing process.
  • Manufacturing Engineering activity for prove-out of new process activities.
  • Carry out a minimum level of minor/ basic editing of CNC programs.
  • Liaise with quality team to close any defined gap between submitted work piece and design.
  • Where applicable work to defined Inspection Control Plans.
  • Carry out any data capture required to improve process capability and control.
  • Ensure that work is moved on to the next work centre on completion of current operation.
  • Support the business to meet defined KPIs e.g. On Time Delivery.
  • Ensure health & safety requirements of the individual and team members are met.
  • Actively support continuous improvements activities throughout the business.
  • Support the process to ensure all necessary tooling/materials/documentation is available.
  • Support development and maintenance of workforce by training colleagues, as necessary.
  • Undertake training identified/specified to achieve acceptable/improved levels of skill set.
  • Support the development and actively encourage a team culture within the machine shop.
  • Maintain systems and procedures to enable compliance with AS9100 quality standard.
  • Work with/support teams in the introduction of new products and production processes
  • Maintain a high standard of housekeeping and cleanliness in the machine shop areas.

The CNC Operator should have the following Qualifications Skills or Experience:

  • Demonstrated experience in CNC machining (Milling and / or Turning and / or Mill-Turn).
  • Experience with high precision products from a variety of materials and forms.
  • Experience in high value, low volume mechanical manufacturing environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of Fanuc controls.
  • A demonstrable ability to problem solve is desirable.
  • Having a Secondary skill-set(s) is a distinct advantage.
  • e.g. another CNC skill-set, Manual Turning, EDM, Rotary and Cylindrical Grinding etc.
  • A demonstrable background in delivering Continual Improvement ideas is an advantage.
  • Computer literate and a good communicator at all levels

A Lead Design and Project Engineer is needed for an established supplier of engineering solutions for the defence sector. They specialise in the design, manufacture and support of control systems, and power systems for defence platforms within the safety critical and harsh environment domain.

The Lead Design and Project Engineer will lead the design and development of new equipment, primarily with mechanical but also electrical skills. The Lead Design and Project Engineer must be creative, inquisitive, keen to learn, question everything and have an eye for detail.  

With the support of the Technical Director the Lead Design and Project Engineer role also covers the full product life-cycle, and you must take the technical lead, the design authority role and develop into a subject matter expert (SME).

The Lead Design and Project Engineer will have a broad range of experience and skills within mechanical design, sheet metal fabrication, manufacturing and prototyping, product development, CAD, and project management but also a good understanding of other manufacturing methods and electrical design. This opportunity will have 3-6 months of Training and Development built in.

Key Duties for the Lead Design and Project Engineer

  • Product development, designing new solutions to meet complex customer requirements.
  • Lead a team of mechanical engineers to design and develop solutions for customers.
  • Create concepts, managing design compliance and regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure solutions are viable and designed efficiently for manufacture and assembly.
  • Be a technical point of contact for customers and accountable for successful delivery of projects.
  • Drive the team towards excellence by improving standards and processes.
  • Mentoring, motivating, and developing the teams' skills and capabilities.
  • May be required to help with general engineering tasks and CAD to support day to day activities.
  • Create effective technical reports to support bid responses, etc.

  • Designing, prototyping, and developing electro-mechanical products.
  • Substantiating designs using analytical methods, FEA software, and other simulation tools.
  • Developing high quality, cost effective and production ready designs in 3D CAD.
  • Promote a culture of excellence and team expertise in DFMA.
  • Conducting material selection, evaluation, and leading internal and external design reviews with customers.
  • The certification and compliance management and developing comprehensive technical documentation.
  • Managing configuration control, product safety, and obsolescence.
  • Providing peer review of drawings, reports, and other engineering output
  • Assisting in the development of company procedures, codes of practise and work instructions.
  • Promoting continual improvement and contributing to business process improvements.

Key Skills/Experience Required for the Lead Design and Project Engineer

  • Knowledge and experience and a background in design and development.
  • Designing for sheet metal fabrication and associated manufacturing techniques.
  • Experience in analysis, e.g. Stress, CFD, FEA etc, using associated software tools, ideally NASTRAN.
  • Demonstrable mechanical design experience and knowledge of Autodesk Inventor 3D CAD is desirable.
  • A background in the naval, marine or defence sectors would be advantageous.
  • Qualified with the equivalent of a UK degree or have significant relevant industry experience.
  • Ability to analyse complex technical issues and develop innovative solutions.
  • Strong problem-solving ability with clear and effective communication, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to produce concept designs to satisfy a customer's equipment specification.
  • Familiar with and able to understand standards e.g. DEF STANS to identify relevant requirements.
  • Confident in design justification, hand calculations, simulations, and testing.
  • Articulate and able to influence stakeholders for an optimal solution with effective presentations.
  • Able to work with cross-functional teams, including engineers, designers, and other stakeholders.
  • Writing test specifications, test requirements, ITPs, and documents to demonstrate compliance.
  • Prepared to challenge existing SME, question traditional solutions and to drive innovation.
  • Courageous and innovative mindset, unafraid to challenge conventional thinking.
  • Motivating, able to plan own time, priorities, and deadlines to ensure project success.

As Service Planner your Responsibilities will include
