Technical Manager
Salary: Up to £75k per annum.
Location: Bolton, fully onsite role, hours 8am - 4pm

The Role
As Technical Manager, you'll lead the Technical Department while acting as the technical expert across the business.
You'll oversee new product development, manage testing and certification, support manufacturing, work directly with customers and suppliers, and ensure products continue to meet the highest quality and regulatory standards.
You'll combine scientific knowledge with commercial awareness, helping customers solve technical challenges while supporting innovation and continuous improvement throughout the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the Technical Department
- Drive new product development and continuous improvement projects
- Provide technical expertise across manufacturing, sales and commercial teams
- Manage technical projects from concept through to successful delivery
- Support manufacturing by resolving technical issues and improving production processes
- Oversee product testing, validation and certification activities
- Ensure compliance of raw materials and finished products
- Work closely with suppliers and contract manufacturing partners
- Provide technical support and advice to customers

About You
We're looking for an experienced Technical Manager who enjoys combining scientific expertise with practical problem solving and leadership.
To be successful you'll need:
- A degree in Chemistry or another relevant Science discipline such as Materials Science, Chemical Science or a closely related subject
- Previous experience in a Technical Manager, Product Development Manager, Research and Development Manager, Technical Lead or Senior Technical role within manufacturing
- Strong product development experience
- Experience supporting manufacturing and production environments
- Knowledge of product testing, validation, certification and regulatory compliance
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- The ability to explain technical information clearly to both colleagues and customers
- A proactive approach with excellent problem solving skills
- Commercial awareness and the ability to balance innovation with business objectives

Controls Engineer – Gloucester

Our client is a specialist engineering company that delivers a range of automated products, solutions and technical services for the manufacturing sector and they are recruiting for a Controls Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis. As a Controls Engineer, your role will focus on the development and support of bespoke automated machinery supplied worldwide.
This role will be predominantly based at their Gloucester office with occasional international travel to their client's sites as required.
Controls Engineer Responsibilities:
- Carry out software and hardware configuration of networked control systems
- Program and integrate vision systems for inspection and measurement using Cognex or similar products
- Provide control system support for prototype, new machine builds, and existing equipment in the field
- Ensure and oversee machine safety to the relevant international standards and practices
- Prepare support documentation to assist with machine manufacture, testing, and customer documentation packages
- Provide customer support and be prepared to travel on-site as required
- Identify opportunities for process, productivity, and quality improvements
- Actively participate in product development and improvement
Controls Engineer Requirements:
- Qualified to HNC/HND or equivalent in a Software-related discipline
- Proven experience in PLC, HMI, and motion programming, preferably using Rockwell Logix platform
- Experience with Siemens Control systems and TIA portal is advantageous.
- Knowledge and programming of robotic applications, preferably with Yaskawa, is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and able to communicate at all levels.
- Helpful and supportive approach to resolving technical challenges.
- Receptive and adaptable to change.
- Able to travel internationally to customer sites (approximately 2-3 weeks in duration, 4-5 times per annum, but may vary depending on projects).

Job Description
- Prepare and clean surfaces prior to coating.
- Operate powder coating equipment safely and efficiently.
- Apply powder paint to components following technical guidelines.
- Hang parts on the power line track for coating and remove them after processing.
- Pick and organise components for coating according to production schedules.
- Carry out quality checks to ensure all products meet required standards.
- Perform 100% kit verification before processing to ensure accuracy and completeness.
