A Senior / Mechanical Design Engineer is required to join an engineering team who are working on the design and development of UAV / Drone launch systems. The company design and develop their products in the UK for the global markets.
With a growing order book, they are seeking to grow their engineering team and require Senior / Mechanical Design Engineers to join their highly innovative and forward-thinking team. The Senior / Mechanical Design Engineer will be essential in strengthening the future engineering capabilities of the organisation and as such will be charged with developing mechanical design schemes and detailed designs of complex parts and assemblies.
The Senior / Mechanical Design Engineer will be proficient in CAD (ideally SolidWorks) to design and detail component and assembly models and the associated drawings. A hands-on approach and can-do attitude are essential, as is the ability to work independently within a small engineering team.

As Senior / Mechanical Design Engineer - you will be required to;
- Develop mechanical design schemes and detailed designs of UAV / drone launch system parts and assemblies and it's associated launch mechanism.
- Carrying out concept development for mechanical systems.
- Using hand calculations, simulation methods, modelling tools and CAE tools to size, analyse and optimise system elements.
- Carry out concept design of mechanical systems using SolidWorks
- Develop part and system testing plans.
- Support in-house prototype build.
- Occasional optional travel outside of the UK to support new projects
As Senior / Mechanical Design Engineer - you will have;
- BSc/BEng in Engineering (or equivalent experience)
- Proven mechanical design experience within the aerospace/defence/motorsport industries
- Proficient in modelling parts & assemblies in CAD (ideally SolidWorks)
- Proficient in carrying out engineering calculations and the use of modelling and simulations software to support their design work. (Mathcad, ANSYS or similar)
- Experience in developing mechanical systems from concept to reality
- Proven background in DFM
- Ideally some experience with DFMEA
- Knowledge of pneumatics would be beneficial though not essential

Overview:
- We are currently recruiting for a Mechanical Technician to join our clients specialist engineering and manufacturing environment focused on the assembly and integration of advanced automated and process systems.
- This is a hands-on role suited to a mechanically skilled technician who has experience working with precision mechanical assemblies, engineering drawings, high-accuracy measurement equipment and complex machinery including breakdown, repairs and troubleshooting.
- You will be involved in the mechanical activities including adjustment, alignment and integration of advanced equipment, ensuring assemblies are completed safely, accurately and to the required quality standards.
- The role would suit candidates with backgrounds such as Mechanical Fitter, Mechanical Assembly Technician, Precision Mechanical Fitter, Mechanical Technician, Machine Assembly Technician, Mechanical Integration Technician or Metrology Technician.
Key Responsibilities:
- Carry out mechanical assembly and integration activities on complex automated and process equipment.
- Interpret engineering drawings, mechanical blueprints and assembly documentation.
- Prepare the required materials, components, tools and equipment before commencing assembly activities.
- Assemble, adjust, align and position mechanical components to required specifications and tolerances.
- Use precision measurement and metrology equipment to verify dimensions, alignment and positional accuracy.
- Use equipment such as laser trackers, interferometry systems or similar high-precision measurement technology.
- Measure and assess characteristics including straightness, positioning, angularity and alignment.
- Carry out mechanical adjustments to achieve the required accuracy and performance.
- Assemble and tighten bolted joints in accordance with the relevant technical procedures and specifications.
- Work with mechanical, pneumatic and, where required, electrical systems as part of the wider equipment integration process.
- Identify and report technical issues that may affect the assembly, quality or delivery of the equipment.
- Record assembly progress, issues and measurements accurately and clearly.
- Work in accordance with company quality, health and safety and environmental procedures.
- Apply 5S and continuous improvement principles within the assembly environment.
- Care for and correctly use all tools, equipment and measurement systems.
- Contribute ideas to improve assembly methods, processes and equipment.
- Support the sharing of technical knowledge and best practice across the wider engineering and assembly teams.
What We Are Looking For:
- The ideal candidate will have experience in a precision mechanical assembly, mechanical fitting, machine building, equipment installation or mechanical integration environment.
Essential Experience
- Proven experience in mechanical assembly, mechanical fitting or the integration of complex machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical engineering drawings, blueprints and technical documentation.
- Experience using precision measurement and metrology equipment.
- Proven experience with laser trackers, interferometry or comparable high-accuracy measurement systems.
- Experience measuring and assessing straightness, positioning, angularity and alignment.
- Experience carrying out mechanical adjustment and precision alignment activities.
- Mechanical vocational training, apprenticeship, HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Desirable Experience
- Knowledge of pneumatic systems.
- Basic knowledge of electrical systems.
- Experience working with automated machinery, process systems, special-purpose machinery or advanced manufacturing equipment.
- Experience with torque-controlled assembly and the tightening of bolted joints.
- Experience working within a 5S, lean manufacturing or continuous improvement environment.

In support of their continued development of existing and future aerospace, energy and medical customers, working from a remote home basis in the UK, this position of European Business Development Manager is focused on customer and market engagement along with business growth, primarily targeting the OE, Tier 1 and Tier 2 levels.
The European Business Development Manager's responsibilities include:
- Supporting our client's further development of core relationships within the UK and European aerospace, energy (IGT) and medical sectors; with an emphasis on developing suitable aerospace clients in particular.
