Senior Engine Test Technician (engine test beds) - 37291700 - £23.69/hr (Umbrella Rate - Inside IR35)

What You Will Do:
· Operate multi-cylinder engine test beds day to day, keeping test rigs safe and ready through routine test cell checks.
· Lead installation and validation of instrumentation and equipment, supporting steady state, transient, emissions, calibration and durability activities.
· Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, rig and measurement issues as first line diagnosis, working to restore performance quickly and accurately.
· Run test steps using tools such as AVL PUMA and ETAS INCA, verifying channel integrity and supporting smooth test execution.
· Assist with hardware changes including injectors, sensors, turbo components, exhaust parts, hoses and fuel system items.
· Support continuous improvement in rig uptime, palletisation efficiency, measurement reliability and overall test execution, while following all APRL safety procedures.
What You Will Bring:
· Strong hands-on experience operating combustion engine test beds in a development or durability environment.
· Solid understanding of engine fundamentals across combustion, turbo-charging, fuelling, emissions, cooling and lubrication.
· Proven practical knowledge of UUT palletisation systems and repeatable engine mounting practices.
· Experience installing and checking instrumentation for temperature, pressure, emissions and airflow systems.
· Familiarity with AVL PUMA and ETAS INCA, plus the ability to diagnose sensor faults, wiring defects, leaks, vibration issues and failures.

The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced CMM Programmer / Inspector to join the Goods Inwards Inspection Laboratory at a specialist engineering and manufacturing business based in Shenstone.
This is a hands-on technical role with an approximately 50/50 split between CMM programming and inspection, working with intricate, high-precision components.
This is not a high-volume, repetitive inspection environment. You will be working with technically complex, precision-engineered components where accurate CMM programming, dimensional measurement and interpretation of engineering drawings are critical.
What You'll Be Doing
- Develop and modify CMM inspection programmes using Mitutoyo MCOSMOS
- Carry out detailed dimensional inspection of intricate, precision-engineered components and sub-assemblies
- Inspect components against complex engineering drawings, specifications and quality requirements
- Undertake First Article Inspection (FAI) activities
- Carry out goods-inwards inspection of precision components
- Perform dimensional audits of assembled engines prior to customer shipment
- Analyse CMM inspection results and identify dimensional or quality issues
- Produce accurate inspection reports and maintain quality records
- Work closely with Engineering, Production and Quality teams to investigate and resolve inspection issues
- Support the development and improvement of CMM programmes and inspection methods
- Ensure all inspection activity is completed accurately and in accordance with internal quality procedures
What We're Looking For
Essential:
- Proven experience in a CMM programming and inspection role
- Hands-on experience programming Mitutoyo CMMs using MCOSMOS - essential
- Experience inspecting complex, intricate or high-precision components
- Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
- Good understanding of dimensional measurement and inspection techniques
- Experience with First Article Inspection
- Knowledge of GD&T / geometric tolerancing
- Experience working within a precision engineering or similarly technically demanding manufacturing environment
Desirable:
- Aerospace, defence, automotive, motorsport or other high-precision engineering experience
- Experience inspecting complex machined components and assemblies
- Experience working with tight dimensional tolerances
- Relevant metrology or inspection qualifications
