As a Principal Software Engineer, you'll lead from the front in embedded and application software, help shape the technical direction, and mentor a talented team working on cutting-edge cyber and defence technology. What You Will Do:

 

? Architect, design, implement, document and test embedded and/or application software to a strong project software development process.

? Apply object-oriented design and design patterns to enable re-use and smooth integration with test frameworks.

? Review system design artefacts and derive software requirements and architecture that meet high-level system needs.

? Maintain high-quality software design using modelling tools such as RSA and Enterprise Architect (EA), supporting accurate code generation where required.

? Drive best-practice development, including TDD/BDD, Continuous Integration, DevSecOps and static and run-time analysis, with a focus on secure software development.

? Lead technical reviews, sign off significant technical documents, and mentor engineers to help the whole team deliver with confidence.

 

What You Will Bring:

 

? A degree in an engineering, mathematical or science-based subject, or equivalent experience.

? Significant experience with embedded product development (including bare-metal and RTOSes such as ThreadX, QNX or Linux) and/or embedded Linux application, kernel and/or driver development.

? Strong C or C++ experience, alongside a solid understanding of best-practice software development lifecycles.

? Proven object-oriented design experience using principles such as SOLID and practical design pattern use.

? Experience with software testing and design for test, plus a track record of using version control, continuous integration and automated test tooling.

Design Engineer - Structural Design

Are you an experienced Design Engineer with a passion for structural design within the construction industry? Do you enjoy taking projects from concept through to manufacture and installation while working closely with clients, architects, and production teams?

We are seeking a Design Engineer to join a growing and innovative business in Craven Arms. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong CAD and 3D modelling experience to play a key role in developing structural products and systems used across a variety of construction projects.

Working within a collaborative engineering environment, you will be responsible for creating practical, cost-effective designs that meet customer requirements while ensuring manufacturability, quality, and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop structural products and systems from concept through to production and installation.
  • Produce detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and drawing packs.
  • Create 3D models using SolidWorks or similar CAD software.
  • Generate and maintain Engineering Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Design for manufacture, ensuring products can be efficiently produced and installed.
  • Produce product cost estimates and support quotation activities.
  • Collaborate with clients, architects, suppliers, and internal teams throughout the design process.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • Degree qualification in Engineering, Product Design, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Proven experience in a Design Engineer or Product Development Engineer position within construction, building products, structural systems, or a similar engineering environment.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles and structural design.
  • Experience using SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to work across engineering, manufacturing, and commercial teams.

Desirable Experience

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and materials.
  • Experience with DriveWorks configurator development.
  • Experience using PDM systems and engineering change control processes.
  • Understanding of product lifecycle management (PLM) systems.
  • Experience working on structural or construction-related products and systems.

Job Description

The Role

The role is to repair broken Mazak spindles to new standards and will involve various assembly tasks related to spindle build such as:

  • Precision measuring of spindle components.
  • Precision assembly and adjustment related to Mazak work instructions.
  • Carrying out various quality checks during the assembly process involving precision equipment such as micrometers, test bars, dial test indicators, clamp force and axial force gauges.
  • Balancing of spindle cartridges.
  • Electrical checks of stators (new and re-used/repaired) to ensure conformance to standard Mazak check sheets.
  • Some electrical assembly work is required however the role is mainly mechanically focused.

The Person

Essential Criteria

  • Background in precision engineering.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • Self-motivated and good communication, attention to detail.
  • Organised, able to plan ahead and good ability to follow written procedures.
  • Ability to work to tight tolerances using hand tools and measuring equipment

Desirable Criteria

  • Apprentice trained.
  • Good understanding of mechanical component drawings and assemblies.
  • Previous experience in spindle assembly.
  • Good understanding of testing electrical motors and fault finding.
  • Previous experience with vernier callipers, depth mics, force gauges and micrometers.
  • IT skills, and previous experience with Microsoft packages
