Job Description

This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supporting and guiding the Power Coating Section team. You will act as the primary point of contact for technical and operational issues, ensuring production targets, quality standards, and health and safety requirements are consistently achieved. The role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement within the coating process.

Intro: This is a hands-on leadership role responsible for supporting and guiding the Power Coating Section team. The role requires strong leadership, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to continuous improvement within the coating process

 Operational Support

• Lead and delivery hands on support to the Power Coating team with technical expertise and day-to-day operational guidance.
• Ensure production schedules are achieved while maintaining quality and efficiency standards.
• Monitor coating processes and equipment performance, responding promptly to issues or stoppages.
• Support preventative maintenance activities and coordinate corrective actions when required.
• Ensure work areas, equipment, and tooling are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness and organisation.
• Keep the Production Supervisor informed of progress, issues, and recovery plans

Process & Quality

• Ensure all quality checks and process controls are completed to the highest standard.
• Support achievement of weekly production plans and recovery activities where necessary.
• Drive improvements in productivity, process performance, and waste reduction.
• Assist with root cause investigations and implementation of corrective actions relating to quality concerns.
• Monitor coating quality, coverage, and finish standards to meet customer requirements.
• Promote continuous improvement activities within the section.

Leadership & Training

• Provide coaching, mentoring, and on-the-job training to team members.
• Lead daily SQDCP meetings and monitor departmental KPIs.
• Drive engagement, accountability, and team performance through effective communication.
• Support skills development and succession planning within the department.
• Liaise closely with supply, production, and customer-facing departments to ensure product flow and delivery schedules are achieved.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives to improve utilisation, efficiency, and quality performance.

Health & Safety

• Promote a strong health, safety, and environmental culture within the department.
• Report, monitor, and address health and safety concerns within the section.
• Ensure compliance with company safety standards, risk assessments, and safe working practices.
• Support environmental compliance relating to the coating process and waste management.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

• Previous experience within a powder coating, paint finishing, or similar manufacturing environment.
• Strong understanding of coating processes, quality requirements, and production controls.
• Good computer literacy and ability to use ERP/MRP systems.
• Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications.
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and meet production deadlines.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making ability.
• Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.

Desirable Criteria

• Previous team leader or supervisory experience.
• ILM Level 3 qualification or willingness to work towards (training provided).
• Experience of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement techniques.
• Knowledge of Six Sigma, 5S, or other process improvement methodologies.
• Strong coaching and people development skills.
• Experience of KPI management and performance reporting.
