Our client is a speciality manufacturer of technical machinery & equipment, and they are seeking an Assembly Fitter to join their existing team. As an Assembly Fitter, you will work to engineering drawings, use bench hand tools and assemble technical machinery.
Assembly Fitter Responsibilities:
- Read and work to technical engineering drawings.
- Assemble both mechanical and electrical parts.
- Installing and fitting hydraulic, mechanical and electrical components.
- Use both hand and power tools during assembly processes
- Troubleshoot and carry out basic repairs during the assembly process.
Assembly Fitter Requirements:
- Previous assembly and fitting experience
- Experienced working within a busy manufacturing environment
- Experienced working with hydraulic and electrical systems are essential
- High level of attention to detail and pride in workmanship
- Must be able to work from engineering drawings

What You Will Do:
• Own the mechanical design phase of projects, including equipment layouts and detailed solutions for a range of equipment.
• Apply Design for Manufacture principles to simplify designs, reduce components, and support efficient manufacturing and assembly.
• Create and maintain accurate CAD models and 2D drawings using SolidWorks or CATIA, ensuring clear revision control for manufacturing and quality teams.
• Support simulation and buy-off activities, including sampling, commissioning, and pre and final acceptance tests at suppliers and on the home line.
• Manage supplier relationships and project workstreams, translating requirements into practical, cost-effective outcomes.
• Help validate FEA analysis during buy-off and contribute to continuous improvement through root-cause analysis and countermeasures.
What You Will Bring:
• Strong mechanical design capability with experience working in an engineering environment (front-end design experience is highly valuable).
• Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD, ideally SolidWorks or CATIA, plus a solid understanding of engineering drawings and tolerances, including GD&T.
• Familiarity with design simulation and validation processes, alongside confidence with Microsoft Office packages.
• A proactive mindset for problem solving, including experience with root-cause analysis and process improvement approaches such as DFMEA/PFMEA (desirable).
• Eligibility to work in the UK, with willingness to travel across Europe as required for supplier buy-off and commissioning activities.

The Opportunity
- We are seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer to join a specialist engineering team supporting customers across the UK heavy industrial sector.
- This is a hands-on, varied role split between workshop engineering and field service work, carrying out installation, maintenance, fault finding, and repair on mechanical systems used in demanding environments such as quarries, foundries, steel plants, and processing facilities.
- You’ll be trusted as a key engineer responsible for keeping critical plant and equipment running reliably.
What You’ll Be Doing:
As a Field Service Engineer / Mechanical Fitter, you will:
- Install, service, and repair mechanical plant and industrial equipment
- Carry out pipefitting, pipework installation, and mechanical assembly
- Diagnose and repair faults on:
- Industrial pumps and pumping systems
- Electric motors and drive systems
- Bearings and rotating machinery
- Pneumatic systems (and associated components)
- Complete workshop-based refurbishment, rebuilds, and preparation work
- Attend customer sites across the UK to carry out planned and reactive maintenance
- Work in heavy industrial environments including quarries, foundries, and manufacturing plants
- Provide technical support and on-site problem solving for customers
- Ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to engineering standards
About You (What We’re Looking For)
We are keen to speak with candidates who have experience as a:

You will ideally have:
- Strong mechanical engineering background (time-served or equivalent)
- Proven pipefitting and mechanical assembly experience
- Hands-on experience with pumps, motors, bearings, and rotating equipment
- Exposure to pneumatic systems (hydraulics also beneficial)
- Experience working in heavy industry (quarry, foundry, steel, aggregates, etc.)
- Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- Ability to work independently on field assignments
- Full UK driving licence
The Role & Working Pattern:
- Approx. 40 hours per week
- Split between workshop and UK field service work
- Early Friday finish (when workload allows)
- UK-wide travel with occasional overnight stays
- Typically 3–4 nights away per month
- Around 4 weeks per year on extended assignments

- Proficient in producing detailed manufacturing drawings.
- Experience with a PLM system (ideally Windchill, training provided)
- Experience with typical gas turbine materials, processes and practices.
- Experience with small gas turbine engines is considered a major advantage.
