Job Description

 

The Role

A position has arisen within European Engineering for a Mechanical Engineer. This vacancy welcomes applicants from all departments.

  • Design and develop special machine options to meet customer specifications
  • Ensure all designs are safe, reliable, and compliant with relevant legislation and standards
  • Engineer, design, and detail mechanical components and assemblies using CREO
  • Prepare comprehensive technical documentation, including parts lists, assembly instructions, CE technical files, and liaising with European Engineering machine manuals
  • Collaborate closely with YMX, Production, and other internal teams to ensure feasibility and alignment
  • Research and evaluate emerging technologies for integration into machine options
  • Manage procurement of special components and liaise with suppliers for technical support
  • Provide hands-on technical assistance to production and service engineers during build and post-delivery phases
  • Operate as part of the European HQ team, working cross-functionally to deliver custom machine solutions across the wider Mazak organisation

 

The Person

 

Essential Criteria

  • Engineering Technical qualification to HNC level or above
  • Minimum 3 years' experience designing parts for machine tools
  • IT Literate in all Microsoft office Packages
  • CAD Experience (CREO is desirable)
  • Self-motivation, good time management & flexible
  • Good communication, Presentation skills & team player
  • A good understanding of engineering core principles
  • Working well with People of all abilities
  • Methodical and systematic with good problem-solving skills
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings. (Mechanical)

 

Desirable Criteria

  • Windchill Experience
  • Basic ability to read & interpret mechanical Pneumatic, Hydraulic circuits (Pending background)
  • Risk assessment experience and an appreciation of health & safety requirements
  • Defining & documenting assembly procedures

Position: Project Manager - Ultra High Voltage (400KV)
Location: London

Role Overview:

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Project Manager, to work for our client at their offices in London, the role is responsible for leading the safe, efficient, and timely delivery of grid transformer projects, from design review through installation, commissioning, and close-out.

This role requires strong technical knowledge, project management expertise, and the ability to coordinate cross-functional teams, suppliers, and contractors to ensure successful project outcomes and would suit someone with experience across transformers and in particular ultra high voltage (400kv).

The Project Manager will act as the key point of contact for clients and stakeholders, ensuring compliance with HSE regulations, quality standards, and contractual obligations while meeting project scope, budget, and schedule requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical & Delivery:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure designs meet client requirements.
  • Manage multiple grid transformer projects, including design, installation, testing, and commissioning.
  • Ensure compliance with HSE regulations (CDM 2015) and drive a zero-incident culture.
  • Monitor and enforce quality management processes, including ITPs and inspections.
  • Maintain project schedules, applying forecasting and corrective measures as required.

Commercial & Contract Management:

  • Manage project costs to ensure delivery within budget.
  • Administer contracts, including early warnings (EWN), claims, and subcontractor/supplier management.
  • Ensure scope is clearly defined, preventing unapproved changes and scope creep.
  • Produce monthly contractual reports and project status updates.
  • Identify, record, and mitigate project risks through structured risk management.

Stakeholder & Communication:

  • Serve as primary contact for clients, suppliers, and subcontractors, ensuring effective communication and alignment.
  • Coordinate internal and external stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Provide regular updates to senior leadership, highlighting progress, risks, and mitigation actions.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in project management, ideally within grid transformer or related infrastructure projects with experience of 400kV.
  • Strong technical knowledge in:
  • Design engineering (reading and interpreting drawings)
  • Transformer installation and commissioning processes
  • HSE compliance (CDM 2015, site safety)
  • Quality management systems (ITPs, audits)
  • Scheduling and time management (Primavera/MS Project)
  • Strong background in cost management, contract administration, and risk management.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.

Education & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (preferred).
  • Project Management certification (Prince2, PMP, or APM).
