This contract Metal Materials Engineer (Materials Design) role is based in Cranfield and offers a favourable PAYE rate of £30.78 per hour PAYE. As a Metal Materials Engineer, you will carry out work necessary to deliver metal material design and homologation tasks on BIW with cost, quality, and timing as key metrics. You will also analyse material properties, manufacturability, and cost to select the best metals for each application.

Do you have sheet metal fabrication experience, and are you seeking a new job in Portsmouth? Jonathan Lee Recruitment is helping a defence company recruit a Sheet Metal Worker, and the role comes with an excellent salary and benefits package including overtime.

The work will be completed in various workshops throughout the dockyard. Within this role, you will demonstrate your skills in plate work and be able to demonstrate the various techniques used in the ship repair industry.

In your first few weeks in this Sheet Metal Worker role, you can expect to:

  • Use guillotines, rolling machines, drilling machines and folding machines, including CNC operation
  • handle tack welding (training/qualification can be provided)
  • Perform accurate marking off using measuring tools
  • Accurately mark out sheet plate extrusions.

To apply for this Sheet Metal Worker role, you will need basic hand skills, i.e. burning and chamfering of various gauges and types of plate and extrusions. You will also need the following:

  • The ability to understand and follow written and/or oral instructions
  • Accurate marking off skills using measuring tools, being familiar with the use use of straight edges, sprit levels, set squares, chalk/string lines, plumb bobs, etc.
  • Experience using sheet metal working equipment

 

You will also need to meet UK Security Clearance requirements including the last 5 years continuous residency in the UK.

Jonathan Lee Recruitment has an exciting opportunity for a collaborative CNC Programmer to join our client's thriving team. This full-time CNC Programming role is based in Bedfordshire and offers an attractive salary and benefits package.

As a CNC Programmer, you will be working as part of an integrated Design & Manufacturing team responsible for producing high-value 1-off wind tunnel model components to quality, time, and budget, in accordance with project manufacturing tolerances and schedules. You will complete off-line CNC milling programming using Delcam Powermill and Powershape, ensuring material waste is minimised and the best use of the machine tool's capabilities is made.

To give you an idea of how this flexible role would look and feel, here are some things you could expect to do:

  • Raise "program master record" (PMR) sheets as instructions on how to manufacture the part
  • Regular communication and coordination with CNC Section Team Leader, CNC Technical Lead, and other Model Making Centre teams to ensure understanding of progress with CNC parts, in particular required quality and delivery dates for the completion of CNC operations
  • Ensure the minimum direct (project) booking requirement is achieved using correct project booking codes for work completed
  • When on shifts, ensure a safe and timely handover of the work in progress to the incoming shift and team leader, ensuring that adequate notes and technical advice are available
  • Make recommendations for process improvement in CNC techniques, where appropriate, to the CNC Section Team Leader

  • Highly proficient writing off-line 3 & 5 axis milling programmes using Delcam Powermill and Powershape (2018 and 2019)
  • Ability to write programmes for 5-axis milling

  • Flexible and positive attitude, willing to go the extra mile to ensure that project manufacturing schedules are met or exceeded

The primary function of this CNC Machinist job will be CNC machining of tooling for composite component manufacture using Epoxy boards, carbon composite parts and jigs and fixtures. Additionally, you will be working with aluminium, steel and other metals for a range of components currently being manufactured.

  • Ensure that the correct speeds/feeds and optimum machine/operating practices are being adopted at all times
  • Ensure the accurate measuring of tooling and components using micrometers, verniers, etc

  • Run machines to maximum efficiency and ensure that free running is optimised whenever possible
  • If operating more than one machine, ensure that spindle time is maximised in line with the priorities set.
