What You Will Do:

 

- Collaborate with Quality and Technical teams to review customer specifications and create tailored work instructions for metallurgical processes. - Work closely with planning and operations departments to ensure production targets are met efficiently and accurately. - Conduct microstructural testing using advanced optical and digital tools, leading investigations to identify root causes of deviations and implementing corrective actions. - Digitise and organise metallurgical data, ensuring it is accessible for audits and technical reviews. - Support live process audits by verifying that all metal additions, chemistry, and casting characteristics meet required specifications. - Lead failure analysis investigations, identifying causes of casting failures and recommending preventive measures.

 

What You Will Bring:

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Laser & Brake Press Supervisor to join our Sheet Metal Department. This role is ideal for an experienced supervisor with a strong background in leading teams and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Set weekly plans and targets to ensure the team meets required daily output.
  • Monitor and report daily on internal part supply and the smooth operation of the CNC brake press, fibre optic laser and robotic system
  • Oversee and control departmental budgets effectively.
  • Manage risk assessments, staff training plans, and SDQCP activities.

Team Leader  (Fabrication/Welding)

Location - Gloucestershire 

Our client specialises in the design, build and installation of bespoke factory automation systems comprising special purpose machinery, conveyors, control systems, vision inspection, and robotics. This role is within the Fabrications unit of the business, responsible for the internal supply of bespoke metal fabricated components and parts.

The role 

Our client has recently invested heavily in their machine shop and metal fabrication unit which includes 3 CNC’s, lathe, 3.2m x 125T press brake, 3kW fiber laser and MIG & TIG welding bays. Reporting to the Production Manager, you’ll join as team leader to a small team of colleagues, charged with running and manufacturing the production of bespoke machine parts. You don’t need to be highly skilled in all areas but must have a thorough understanding of what’s involved but operating and running a brake press is key as you’ll be taking the lead there. The more open you are to upskilling, and having a flexible, positive outlook, the more interested we are in you. You’ll be responsible for the day to day safe and efficient running of the fabrications business unit, as well as the team, scheduling and output quality. This is an integral role requiring good planning and time management skills to ensure that complex fabricated parts are delivered to the highest possible standards and in a timely fashion.

Key responsibilities include

  • Being the key person for safe, yet efficient running of a brake press
  • Managing the flow of production and ensuring production stays on track
  • Ensuring machinery is effectively maintained and/or serviced (TPM)
  • Leading/supervising and effectively delegating to team members – getting the best out of the team and utilising their skillsets to best effect. Creating the right balance between hard work and enjoyment in the workplace
  • Managing and maintaining a clean, safe machine shop and facilities. Ensuring any repairs are flagged for remedy and carried out in a timely fashion
  • Setting the highest possible standards – quality and efficiency- and instilling them in the team
  • Ensure team members and any site visitors conform with the company’s health and safety standards, without exception
  • Motivating team to take pride in their work areas and tools
  • HR effectiveness – managing attendance, sickness records and ensuring effective management of staff holidays so that business is not impacted but equally staff welfare is not impacted
  • Ensuring you and your team consistently and accurately log projects with timesheet reporting
  • Identifying personnel issues and responding/managing appropriately – not letting things slide – proactively flagging upwards and seeking HR guidance as required
  • Interpreting technical drawings/documents
  • Working closely with design and production times – maintaining strong communications and setting expectations
  • Advising on the right processes and using your experience to recommend the best suppliers
  • Ordering raw materials and site consumables in accordance with purchasing systems and budgets
  • Knowing when to escalate and setting realistic delivery expectations

Role Requirements

  • Have sound experience of fabrication shop environments and processes
  • Have strong experience of leading teams, dealing with different characters in order to get the best out of people
  • Be IT literate – a competent computer user as you’ll need to manage production and resource schedules
  • Have an understanding of Lean processes and 5S
  • Be experienced user of brake press
  • Lead by example, and instil strong team spirit – you’ll roll your sleeves up and get stuck in
  • Have the desire to learn and improve yourself
  • Be fluent in English (second language is always a plus)
  • Have a ‘can do’ attitude (we are a small but growing team – we don’t have room for divas!)
  • Have good communication skills

Role Purpose

As Senior Buyer, the job holder will be responsible for managing and developing Thermex's procurement activities across a diverse global supply chain. This is a commercially focused and operationally strategic role with a clear development path into Purchasing / Procurement Manager within 12 months. The role supports the business's ongoing growth and systems transformation, including the implementation of a new ERP system.

 

 

Key Responsibilities

      Take ownership of direct and indirect purchasing requirements to support production and new product development.

Lead supplier negotiations on cost, delivery, and quality, including international suppliers across China, Germany, Turkey, and Canada.

Develop and maintain the approved vendor list (AVL) and support the implementation of preferred supplier agreements.

Deliver against cost reduction targets

Manage an annual spend of approximately £4-5 million.

Contribute to dual sourcing strategies and mitigate risks associated with single-source suppliers.

Support supplier selection and validation in collaboration with engineering and quality teams.

Play an active role in the implementation and transition to the new Epicor ERP system, standardising purchasing processes and reducing reliance on spreadsheets.

Ensure procurement input into new project development and cross-functional initiatives, including close collaboration with planning, quality, engineering, finance and sales teams.

Maintain compliance with MOD requirements and broader sustainability and supplier risk management goals.

Monitor market trends and identify opportunities for cost-saving, quality improvement, or supply continuity.

Represent the business in international supplier visits as required (China travel anticipated).

 

 

Qualification and Skills

Formal Qualifications

Essential

      A-levels or equivalent professional experience

CIPS qualification or progress towards (desirable but not essential)

 

 

Specific Skills

Essential

      Strong background in purchasing/procurement within a manufacturing or engineering environment

Experience of global sourcing and working with international suppliers

Excellent commercial negotiation skills

Strong communication and stakeholder management ability across multiple departments

Good working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems (Epicor experience advantageous)

High degree of computer literacy including Excel and procurement tools

Ability to work under pressure and manage competing priorities

Desirable

      Exposure to purchasing commodities such as foundry castings, welded components, machined metals, and fabricated assemblies

Experience supporting new ERP implementations

Understanding of compliance and certification within regulated industries (e.g. MOD)

      Willing and able to travel internationally (China and Europe)
