Production Manager

In support of an established SME UK based manufacturing Group, a NEW Production Manager is required to be responsible for all aspects of the manufacturing and productivity of a privately owned aerospace manufacturing company in Tewkesbury.

This position is specifically targeted on the efficient and cost effective production consistent with being a supplier of the highest quality precision components and assemblies.

The Production Manager will be required to supervise other members of staff , therefore this role is seeking a strong and motivated leader focused on accuracy, best practice and efficient manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities & Objectives 
•    To efficiently and effectively carry out the control, manufacturing and supply of machined and processed components inline with delivery and quality expectations, including management of the internal rework process. This includes working with other departments to compile the 13-week forecast figure, and providing output estimates for management review and discussion (e.g. at KPI meetings)
•    To manage the day-to-day operation of the shop floor to optimise machine and labour utilisation, including creating and executing weekly, monthly and annual production schedules, adjusting as required to achieve requirements
•    To monitor machine utilisation, production labour efficiency, product standards and quality control. Targets for these will be set annually and progress reviewed weekly with the senior team
•    Be responsible for the health and safety of all employees and visitors to site. This is to include the management of risk assessments, COSHH requirements and all other duties required to ensure the welfare of all
•    Implement any other key performance indicators necessary in order to achieve business objectives
•    To strive to continuously improve the efficiency of the production department by implementing and managing a continuous, sustainable improvement plan. This should include training in modern production methods such as ‘lean' as well as other techniques
•    Take responsibility for all production equipment including procurement and maintenance (both reactive and preventative)
•    To identify and manage resource requirements to achieve maximum efficiency and effectiveness
•    To ensure that all owned procedures and work instructions are maintained; reviewed and revised to ensure they meet the requirements of the business, customers and market standards
•    Ensure full implementation of other procedures and work instructions, i.e. those not owned but relevant to the process
•    To work with the HR Manager to manage any disciplinary issues
•    Implement control and management/reporting of overtime levels
•    Liaise with the Sales Team/Account Managers to ensure they are aware of available capacity issues, projected delivery times for enquiries and the accurate delivery dates of orders received + provide input into quotation compilation providing information such as cycle and setup times
•    To carry out annual appraisals of the Production team
•    Support 5S, LEAN and any other initiatives the Company may instigate as part of the continuous improvement drive
•    To follow and implement the Company’s Environmental Policy

Do you have experience of spin forming using Leifeld machinery? We have an opportunity for a skilled Metal Spinner to join their innovative team. With a focus on safety, quality, and efficiency, you'll be at the forefront of manufacturing excellence, contributing to the production of components that are integral to a wide range of industries.

What You Will Do

  • Operate PNC/CNC Leifeld spin lathes to spin form and CNC turn components ranging from 100mm to 3000mm in diameter across various material grades and thicknesses.
  • Conduct precise inspections of products, ensuring they meet tight tolerance requirements using manual and portable inspection equipment.
  • Collaborate with Tool Preparation Operatives for timely provision of materials and tooling, enhancing production efficiency.
  • Engage in the creation and amendment of setup procedures, setting up CNC machines within target times and producing components within agreed cycle times.
  • Perform daily maintenance checks on machinery, reporting major issues and completing minor maintenance within capability.
  • Maintain effective communication with the Cell Leader and/or Supervisor regarding daily production activities.

What You Will Bring

  • Apprenticeship trained (or equivalent) in an engineering related discipline.
  • Proven experience in metal spinning and CNC operation, with a keen eye for detail and quality.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and produce components that meet specifications.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of working collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Commitment to health and safety standards and environmental regulations.

As Senior Mechanical Design Engineer - you will have;

  • BSc/BEng in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or HNC/HDC with equivalent experience)
  • Proven mechanical design, analysis & development experience
  • Proficient in modelling parts & assemblies in 3D CAD
  • Proficient in carrying out engineering calculations and the use of modelling and simulations software. (Mathcad, ANSYS or similar)
  • Experience in developing mechanical systems from concept to reality

As Mechanical Stress Engineer - you will have;

  • Good understanding of transient thermal loads in hot components and load interactions
  • Experience in rig testing and verification is desirable
  • Experience with damage tolerance assessments is desirable

Quality Engineer
In support of an established SME UK based manufacturing Group focused primarily on the machining and manufacture of components for the aerospace sector, a NEW Quality Engineer is required for this privately owned company in Dartford, Kent.

The Quality Engineer is responsible for two key Quality functions: the preparation and submission of First Article Inspection Reports and the management of non-conforming product. The role includes forming a good working relationship with customer’s quality representatives and assisting process owners and account managers in the resolution of customer concerns.

The purpose of this role is to provide support to the Quality Manager to ensure they meet key quality objectives.

Key Responsibilities & Objectives
• Responsibility of the FAIR process - ensuring FAIR requirements are identified, created in accordance with customer requirements and submitted on time to an acceptable standard
• Day to day management of the MRB process, ensuring all non-conforming product is identified and investigated with the aim to reduce the re-occurrence of issues
• Ensure preventative action and risk management is carried out in accordance with internal procedures to reduce the risk of potential reoccurrence
• Be responsible for the timely calibration of all measuring devices, ensuring equipment is within calibration and available to our Production employees when required
• To carry out Delegated Product Release Verification in accordance with AS13001
• Carry out Internal Audits in accordance with an agreed plan
• Follow up audits by assisting Process Owners to effectively close non-conformances in a timely manner
• Liaise with the Quality Manager to share key responsibilities to ensure business continuity in all aspects of the Quality function required by the Company and its stakeholders
• Compile Quality performance reports for review with the QM against agreed targets and budgets. This will include performance against the agreed Scrap Cost allowance in annual budgets and preparing reports for management review
• Liaise with customers to develop business relationships and resolve customer concerns
• Manage the Supplier rejection process to ensure delivered product is consistently conforming
• Ensuring all customer quality requirements are identified, applied internally, and communicated to the supply chain where required (including Goods In Verification of Purchased Product)

Essential Training & Competences:
• Experience in the compilation and submission of FAIRs
• A proactive approach to day-to-day activity management and ability to make or present decisions for review where appropriate
• Knowledge of, and ability to apply a number of problem-solving techniques including but not limited to fishbone diagrams, pareto charts, 8D, 5 whys and other root-cause analysis techniques
• Fully conversant with the requirements of AS9100
• Awareness of, and experience with internal/3rd party audits
• Ability to generate professional reports and present findings for management review
• Demonstrable application of professional behaviours and a high level of customer service
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a Quality department in an engineering environment
• Competent mechanical engineering ability or relating background

Desirable
• Experience of working in an Inspection environment with knowledge of inspection and measurement techniques
• Knowledge of AS13100
• Certificate of Common Training for DPRV Personnel including AS13001 and AS9117 requirements
• IAQG certified lead assessor for AS9100
• Lean Six Sigma belt
• Working knowledge of APQP/PPAP
• Member of an appropriate professional body, e.g. the Chartered Quality Institute
