As a Mechanical Stress Engineer, you will work within the engine design team, being responsible for mechanical assessments of aircraft and engine components to ensure that they meet the required life and integrity requirements. You will also create mechanical models to analyse the aircraft components and sub-systems using analysis methods ranging from initial scoping calculations in mathcad to 2D and 3D FEA models.

In your first few weeks in this Stress Engineer role, you can expect to:

  • Build and analyse mechanical models of static and rotating components using 2D
  • Work closely with design team to optimise the performance and integrity of mechanical components across the platform
  • Undertake technical assessment of the component life and integrity through the design phase, into testing, verification, validation, certification and in-service support

To apply for this Mechanical Stress Engineer role, you will need a BSc/BEng in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering and 5+ years of relevant mechanical analysis experience. You will also require the following:

  • FEA mechanical analysis (ANSYS) experience
  • Good understanding of transient thermal loads in hot components and load interactions
  • Experience in rig testing and verification (desirable)

You will have the opportunity to work on innovative projects, working alongside an experienced engineering team who are working on the design and development of light helicopters for the global market. The company design, develop and manufacture their products in the UK.

The role of Mechanical Design Engineer will be to use PTC Creo to produce & detail component and assembly models and the associated drawings.  A hands-on approach and can-do attitude are essential, as is the ability to challenge mainstream thinking in a constructive and energetic way. This is a permanent position with hybrid working available.

Responsibilities:

  • Designing and detailing components/assemblies utilizing PTC Creo for all solid modelling
  • Development & preparation of drawings to relevant ASME and BS standards for internal and external usage for prototype or production usage
  • Usage of Windchill PDM for BOM structure development and drawing release, and support peer review of drawings for release.
  • Support to prototype and pre-production builds through virtual design reviews, system arrangement drawings and sub system BOMs
  • Interact with cross functional teams, and suppliers to meet the specifications and needs of the customer in the development of new and current products
  • Support problem solving, prototyping, intellectual property, timeline management, and product testing and validation
  • Thoroughly documents product designs, project activities, communications, verification results and recommendations as required
  • Support development of internal best practice processes

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Degree qualified or equivalent with relevant experience in an engineering design role
  • Proven design & detailing experience of mechanical parts, assemblies and systems
  • Proficient with PTC CREO for detailed CAD work
  • A working knowledge of Windchill would be beneficial, along with Microsoft Office software
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively communicate to all levels within the organization
  • Possess well-developed product knowledge, problem solving skills.
  • Proficient in “Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance” (GD&T) and able to perform tolerance stack-up analysis
  • Used to working within an engineering Phase gateway process for development and validation.

An opportunity has arisen for Instrumentation Engineer to join an Aerospace and Defence Organisation within the Milton Keynes area. The successful Instrumentation Engineer will join the Engineering Team and will support a wide variety of commercial and research projects.

The Instrumentation Engineer role will be to manufacture and install instrumentation associated with testing facilities. This will include but is not limited to; equipment calibration, the set-up of specialised measurement/monitoring equipment, assembly, and integration for test, troubleshooting and assisting in the operation of facilities.

The successful Instrumentation Engineer will be able to demonstrate the drive and commitment necessary for ensuring that work is completed in line with challenging schedule requirements whilst maintaining a clean, safe working environment. To succeed in this Instrumentation Engineer position, you must be flexible in your approach to working hours, which will require shift working, and able to respond quickly to a changing workload.

Working hours: Full time, 40 hours per week, shift work (typical hours are 07.00 - 15:00 and 14.00 - 22:00 on a rotating weekly basis) and salary dependent on experience.

Responsibilities, Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills Required of the Instrumentation Engineer

  • Manufacture of wiring looms and assemblies with reference to circuit drawings/wiring lists.
  • Hand soldering of fine components at the workbench and strain-gauge installation/wiring.
  • Calibration, maintenance, testing, fault-finding of sensors and systems to component level.
  • Support the design and integration of instrumentation into customer tests and rigs.
  • Work as part of a team and conduct testing to defined quality standards.
  • Provide instrumentation support for projects in all test facilities.
  • Maintenance of the instrumentation hardware and records.
  • Preparation and installation of specialist optical measurement systems in test facilities.
  • Making recommendations for design, process, or hardware modifications.
  • Support continuous improvement within the department.
  • Perform tasks with conformance to Health & Safety Policy and Quality Standards.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.
  • Flexible approach to shift working patterns & overtime as required.
  • Undertaking training, where necessary, in support of the above duties.
  • Training will be given in all the specialist activities associated with this position.
  • Experienced time served technician, preferably educated to HNC/HND level.
  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering level (or equivalent) with experience of working in R&D.
