Group Quality and HSE Manager

Working within a specialist EDM, machining and grinding operation in the West Midlands, our firmly established client is seeking an experienced Group Quality and HSE Manager to support their ongoing manufacturing growth activity within the global aerospace and industrial sectors.

Based primarily at their site near Wolverhampton, but having close working activity with the Group sister site near Halesowen, this role will report to the Group Operations Director and key responsibilities will include:

  • Manage all QHSE compliance requirements and market relevant risks/opportunities
  • Track external developments specific to the UK and US/global aerospace sectors which may affect the business operation
  • Support manufacturing, product development, supply chain, logistics and sales/marketing activities
  • Manage the QMS
  • Complete problem analysis, process analysis, the identification of process improvements and the implementation of preventive actions alongside the existing quality inspection teams
  • Actively manage and develop QHSE focussed groups within the company as required
  • Manage/develop a structured performance assessment process for systems, process and products
  • Identify opportunities for improvements relating to QHSE
  • Assist in the evaluation of non-conformances relating to product, process and business systems with recommendations for solution
  • Preparation and write QHSE reports
  • Liaise with external parties, i.e. customers, accreditation bodies, suppliers on matters relating to QHSE
  • Hold responsibility for all audit and certification activity
  • Support the evaluation and audit of sub-contractors and suppliers
  • Maintain and further expand/establish proactive and preventative health, safety and environmental (QHSE) policies while ensuring compliance with current legislation.

The essence of the role is to maintain and further expand/establish proactive and preventative quality, health, safety and environmental (QHSE) policies while ensuring compliance with current legislation. Some UK and international (US) travel will be required

On a permanent basis, you will need to have:

  • Min HND or equivalent in a technical discipline
  • 5+ years' experience in QHSE
  • Knowledge of ISO and AS9100 requirements
  • Worked within a production engineering environment - preferably aerospace/defence
  • Completed risk assessments and COSHH assessments
  • Completed accident/incident investigation
  • Implemented pro-active problem-solving techniques: 8D methodology, FMEA, 5s and lean manufacturing

Working within a specialist EDM, machining and grinding operation in the West Midlands, our firmly established client is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to support their ongoing manufacturing growth activity within the global aerospace and industrial sectors.

Based primarily at their site near Wolverhampton, but having close working activity with the Group sister site near Halesowen, this role will report to the Group Operations Director and key responsibilities will include:

  • Direct engineering responsibility within an established manufacturing environment
  • Work closely with Operations to support all elements of manufacturing including machining, machining techniques, best practice, continuous improvement, schedule adherence, cost and efficiency control
  • Support NPI and product development opportunities

Managing a team of circa 30 people, the role is a hands-on position and involves working to high tolerances and with specialist carbon-based materials as well as metallics. Combining grinding, 3 / 4 / 5 axis machining, the Engineering Manager should have considerable experience of working in an engineering and manufacturing environment with a strength in CNC manufacturing across similar operations.

This role would ideally suit candidates who have seen career success from a machinist level through to a supervisory/management position.

Mechanical Maintenance Technician - Aerospace and Defence

An opportunity has arisen for Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join an Aerospace and Defence Organisation within the Milton Keynes area. The successful Mechanical Maintenance Technician will join the Engineering Services Team, reporting to the Team Leader. The Mechanical Maintenance Technician will be responsible for conducting planned and reactive maintenance to the facility including installation and modification of the facility.  

Typical working hours: Full time, 40 hours per week, shift work (typical hours are 06:30 – 14.30 and 14.00 – 22:00 on a rotating basis).

Responsibilities Required for Mechanical Maintenance Technician

  • Conduct inspections, maintenance and repairs of the equipment involved with facility.
  • Testing and mechanical services (planned maintenance).
  • Responsible for the repair of plant and equipment during breakdown.
  • Fault-finding in accordance with supervisory instructions (reactive maintenance).
  • Installation of new plant and equipment in accordance with supervisory instructions.
  • Share ideas on design and implementation improvements, as appropriate.
  • Compliance with Health, Safety and Environmental procedures.
  • Provide input for the preparation and adherence to risk assessments & method statements.
  • Compliance with site security procedures.
  • Member of Emergency Response team.

Skills, Qualifications and Knowledge Required for Mechanical Maintenance Technician

  • Mechanical Apprenticeship and/or significant demonstrated experience.
  • Experience with installing, maintaining, repairing, and inspecting industrial plant equipment and systems, such as:
    • High Pressure compressed air systems.
    • Water cooling & treatment systems.
    • Plant lubrication and hydraulic systems.
    • Mechanical machinery and infrastructure, including rotating/reciprocating components (gears, chains, linkages, and actuating rods).
  • Team player, capable of coaching and mentoring less experienced employees.
  • Flexible and positive attitude, willing to go that extra mile to meet deadlines/schedules.
  • Attention to detail in terms of quality of work.
  • Drive and commitment to improve skills and be receptive to new ideas/ways of working.
  • Self-motivated with good communication and can-do attitude to overcome issues that arise.

An opportunity has arisen for Manufacturing and Assembly Fitter to join an Aerospace and Defence Organisation within the Milton Keynes area. The successful Manufacturing and Assembly Fitter will join the Design and Manufacture Department to work as part of a professional team, fitting and assembling intricate components. The Manufacturing and Assembly Fitter will be reporting to the Fitting Section Team Leader, the successful candidate will be a team player, confident individual with a positive attitude. The Manufacturing and Assembly Fitter is required to have skills and qualifications that include a mix of technical training, craftsmanship and attention to detail. This Manufacturing and Assembly Fitter role will be ideal for someone with manual dexterity and experienced in working environments requiring extreme precision and care.

Working hours: Full time, 38 hours per week (some shift work may be required at busy times only).

Responsibilities Required for Manufacturing and Assembly Fitter

  • Conduct all aspects of fitting activity (hand working surfaces to remove machine marks, blending component joint lines to remove steps/gaps.
  • Fitting precision components and assembling models as directed by the Fitting Team Lead. 
  • Monitor the serviceability of Fitting Section machines, equipment, and tooling.
  • Report potential problems to the Fitting Section Team Leader.
  • If required and when deemed qualified to do so, support on the job training and provide guidance to less experienced staff working in the Fitting Section.
  • Ensure that the minimum direct (project) booking requirement is achieved.
  • When on shifts, ensure a safe and timely handover of the work in progress to the incoming shift and TL, ensuring that adequate notes and technical advice are available.
  • Make recommendations for process improvement in Fitting techniques, where appropriate, to the Fitting Section Team Leader.

Skills, Qualifications and Knowledge Required for Manufacturing and Assembly Fitter

  • NVQ and/or BTEC in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Metalworking or Fabrication.
  • A served apprentice in model making, tool making or mechanical fitting.
  • Demonstrable experience in manual and powered tools (lathes, grinder, drills).
  • Ability to read an interpret technical drawings or CAD design.
  • Understanding of other skills such as EDM, turning, jig boring, grinding and CNC machining.
  • Knowledge of metal properties and safe handling of precious materials.
  • High attention to detail and ability to work independently and as part of a team.

An opportunity has arisen for Mechanical Operator and Calibration Technician to join an Aerospace and Defence Organisation within the Milton Keynes area. The successful Mechanical Operator and Calibration Technician whose primary function will be to operate test facilities in a safe, efficient manner, consistent with the needs of customer test requirements. The Mechanical Operator and Calibration Technician duties may include equipment calibration, the set-up of specialized measurement/monitoring equipment, model assembly for test, troubleshooting, making, and implementing agreed recommendations for improvement and test execution. The main test facility will be the place of work ,but there are complementary facilities which the position of this Mechanical Operator and Calibration Technician will also cover.

Typical hours: Full-time, 40-hour per week (shift work may be required on a rotating weekly basis) 

Responsibilities Required for Mechanical Operator and Calibration Technician

  • General departmental duties e.g. record maintenance, model storage, organization of equipment, rig maintenance, etc.
  • Working within a team environment in the preparation and assembly of models and rigs for testing to defined quality standards, considering schedule and costs.
  • Maintenance, calibration and quality control of rigs, facilities, and associated equipment.
  • Preparation and installation of specialist optical measurement systems in test facilities.
  • Operating the main facility and operating complementary test facilities as required.
  • Making recommendations for design, process, or hardware modifications to support continuous improvement.
  • Operation and development of test facilities, rigs, and equipment, including the operation of control systems directly associated with the facilities and specialist rigs.
  • Undertaking training, where necessary, in support of the above duties, to ensure safe working practices (e.g. forklift, facility operation, manual handling, confined spaces, etc).

Skills, Qualifications and Knowledge Required for Mechanical Operator and Calibration Technician

  • Experienced time served technician, preferably HNC/HND Mechanical Engineering or equivalent with hands on experience of specialist equipment or facilities.
  • Solid background in mechanical engineering and an appreciation of other engineering disciplines such as instrumentation, control systems, high pressure hydraulics or pneumatics.
  • Exposure in working within an R&D and/or commercial environment.
  • Experience of working on small precision assemblies.
  • Team player, capable of coaching and mentoring less experienced employees as well as supervision of ‘young hires’ as required.
  • Flexible and positive attitude, with drive, commitment, and willingness to go that extra mile to meet deadlines/schedules.
  • Attention to detail of quality of work whilst maintaining a clean, safe working environment.

An Electronic and Electrical Engineer is required within an Advanced Space and Defence Services Organisation. The Electronic and Electrical Engineer will be an experienced Engineer working on technical Space and Defence projects while shaping the future of Space and Defence Engineering.

The Electronic and Electrical Engineer will facilitate Space and Defence Engineering activity, and the Electronic and Electrical Engineer will need experience with Systems Assembly, Systems Integration & System Test. The Electronic and Electrical Engineer will be working alongside subject matter experts in a dynamic and growth focused Space and Defence business.

Due to the Space & Defence Products/Platforms involved this is a Fully On-site Role with no Hybrid.

The Electronic and Electrical Engineer you will be required to:

  • Design / Specification to support Systems (e.g. Electronic Propulsion, Radio Frequency and Central Systems)
  • Alignment of design with requirement engineering processes (Traceability/Compliance matrix etc.) considering customer level requirements.
  • Review of supplier documentation / RID generation (e.g. during Tender phase or during formal reviews with the customer)
  • Support of major customer review processes
  • Production of relevant technical documentation (e.g. Design reports, User Manuals, Test Procedures)
  • Oversight of manufacturing processes for platform systems, this may include Procurement,
  • Managing and prioritizing the manufacturing processes
  • Validation and certification for use in the Systems facility
  • First level support for the Systems facility, which may include Commissioning of hardware, Composition of procedures and training.

The Electronic and Electrical Engineer Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

  • Degree in engineering with ideally an electrical or electronics systems background.
  • Where applicable suitable experience in addition to a lower qualification may be acceptable.
  • Strong industrial background in areas related to Space and Defence Ideally.
  • Solid understanding of the technical challenges in this field.
  • A passion for hands-on engineering able to solve complex problems.
  • Some knowledge of Space and Defence Systems Engineering and Complex Platforms.
  • Experience in customer facing roles and business development is also advantageous.

** Security Clearance will be required due to the nature of the Systems involved, therefore applications from British Nationals only able to get full UK-SC Clearance will be accepted **
