Gas Turbine Repair & Overhaul

Salary Negotiable Depending on Experience

Working: 9 day fortnight 07.30 to 16.15 Monday to Thursday / 07.30 to 16.00 every other Friday

Overview:

Join a world-class Turbine Repair team, working hands-on with industrial gas turbines and associated equipment. You’ll play a key role in the servicing, maintenance, repair, and overhaul of complex turbine systems — ensuring that every engine meets exacting technical standards and delivers top performance for our customers across the UK and abroad.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performing complete strip-downs and rebuilds of industrial gas turbine engines, following detailed procedures and engineering specifications.
  • Cleaning and inspecting components using chemical, ultrasonic, and manual methods, and carrying out dimensional checks with precision instruments (videoscopes, micrometers, DTIs, CMMs, etc.).
  • Inspecting turbine and compressor blades, applying rectification techniques such as dressing, grit blasting, and glass peening.
  • Assessing parts for serviceability, refurbishment, coating, and non-destructive testing (NDT) requirements.
  • Conducting component and assembly balancing, making multiplane corrections where necessary.
  • Assembling products using detailed build procedures, including pressure testing, cryogenic and induction heating techniques, degaussing, and electrical continuity/resistance testing — while maintaining full traceability and documentation.
  • Supporting failure investigations, preparing photographic records and reports for customers and insurers.
  • Installing turbines in test facilities, performing pre-test checks and in-situ repairs as required.
  • Managing the receipt and dispatch of engines, ensuring correct installation in transport pods and containers.
  • Supporting special projects and bespoke machinery work — including fault diagnostics, part selection, and repair verification.
  • Assisting with the review and preparation of technical documentation to ensure compliance with internal and national standards.
  • Providing training and mentorship for apprentices, new fitters, and customer support engineers.
  • Safely operating mechanical lifting equipment (gantries, hoists, slings, shackles, etc.) after appropriate training.
  • Maintaining flexibility to support other mechanical areas of the business and participating in field service work at customer sites in the UK and overseas.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Completed Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship or a minimum of 5 years’ relevant industry experience.
  • BTEC National Certificate or City & Guilds Level 3 (Mechanical).
  • Desirable:
  • Experience with industrial or aero-derivative gas turbines.
  • Knowledge of NDT techniques.
  • LOLER or equivalent lifting certification.
  • IOSH Working Safely or equivalent qualification.
  • Leadership or supervisory training/certification.

Skills & Experience:

  • Proven mechanical fitting experience in a related field (aerospace, marine, automotive, heavy plant, or power generation).
  • Proficient in hand and power tools, including pneumatic and impact tools.
  • Skilled in precision inspection and measurement.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
  • A collaborative team player with a hands-on, problem-solving mindset.
  • Flexible, proactive, and willing to travel when required.
