Assembly Team Leader (MIG Welding / Fabrication)
Gateshead
£15.42 per hour (£31,300 per annum)
4 Day Week – Monday to Thursday, 6:30am – 4:45pm (39 hours)

We are recruiting an Assembly Team Leader for an established engineering and manufacturing business in Gateshead. The business operates a large press shop, manufacturing components and panels for automotive and off-highway customers, including major construction and agricultural machinery manufacturers.
Working within the assembly bay, you will lead a team of four (welders/finishers), organising daily activities and ensuring production, quality and safety standards are maintained. This is a hands-on position, so you will need to be a competent MIG Welder with basic fabrication skills, alongside the ability to lead and support a small team.
Key Responsibilities
- Organise and supervise the day-to-day activities of the assembly team.
- Remain hands-on with MIG welding, fabrication and assembly processes.
- Monitor production output and quality standards.
- Support problem-solving and root cause investigations.
- Drive continuous improvement and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Maintain health, safety and housekeeping standards.
- Identify training needs and support team development.
The Person
- Competent MIG Welder with fabrication experience.
- Previous experience in an assembly or manufacturing environment.
- Supervisory, Team Leader or Chargehand experience.
- Good organisational, communication and problem-solving skills.
- A practical, hands-on approach with the ability to motivate and develop others.
