Prototype Development Engineer

We are are working with a specialist engineering company supplying advanced coil winding technology to customers in the Formula 1, aerospace, space, medical and automotive sectors.
Due to continued growth, they requie a Prototype Development Engineer to join their team. This is a varied, hands-on role combining CAD design, prototyping, manual machining and machine development.
The Role
Working within a small engineering team, you will be involved in the design, manufacture and development of specialist machinery and tooling.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing components and tooling using CAD
- Producing engineering drawings
- Manufacturing prototype parts using manual lathes and milling machines
- Assembling, testing and modifying machinery
- Supporting new product and machine development projects
- Carrying out mechanical modifications and improvements
- Undertaking basic electrical modification work where required
About You
You will be a practical, hands-on engineer with experience in several of the following areas:
- Manual lathe and milling machine operation
- Machining prototype components from steel and aluminium
- CAD design, layout of engineering drawings, 3D printing
- Mechanical assembly and workshop practices
- Mechanical problem solving and fault finding
The following would be advantageous:
- Machine build or special purpose machinery experience
- Prototype development or toolmaking experience
- Basic electrical wiring or modification skills
- Engineering qualification, apprenticeship, HNC/HND or equivalent
