Location: Newton Abbot
Salary: Competitive + Benefits
Overview:
- We are looking for an experienced Senior Electrical Engineer to join an established engineering team in Newton Abbot, working on the design and development of gas turbine generator sets and power generation equipment for customers in the UK and international markets.
- This is a broad electrical engineering role covering electrical design, LV and MV systems, PLC and HMI programming, electrical equipment and plant design, technical problem solving and customer support.
- The position would suit an experienced Electrical Design Engineer, Senior Electrical Engineer, Electrical Systems Engineer or Controls/PLC Engineer who is looking to work on complex industrial equipment and would ideally bring experience from power generation, gas turbines, generators, rotating equipment or another closely related engineering environment.
- You don’t need to have experience across every area listed. We are particularly interested in engineers with a strong electrical design background, as well as candidates with a strong PLC/HMI and controls skillset.
What you’ll be doing:
- As Senior Electrical Engineer, you will take technical ownership of allocated electrical engineering activities, working closely with mechanical, acoustic, controls and wider engineering teams to develop safe, compliant and reliable solutions.
- Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing and developing LV and MV electrical systems for gas turbine generator sets and associated equipment.
- Developing and maintaining electrical designs, drawings, schematics and technical documentation.
- Working with PLC and HMI systems, including programming, development and technical support where required.
- Providing electrical engineering solutions across product development, customer projects and engineering assignments.
- Taking technical responsibility for allocated electrical engineering projects and ensuring delivery to agreed timescales and budgets.
- Identifying and resolving electrical engineering issues through structured technical problem solving.
- Working closely with mechanical, electrical, controls and acoustic engineers to ensure integrated equipment designs meet technical requirements.
- Supporting the verification and validation of engineering solutions.
- Ensuring designs comply with relevant standards, regulations and applicable engineering directives.
- Producing technical information and evidence required for certification, compliance and customer requirements.
- Maintaining and improving existing electrical baseline designs and documentation.
- Providing technical support to customers and assisting with electrical engineering issues at customer sites when required.
- Working with suppliers and customers on technical matters.
- Supporting the sales and bid teams by providing electrical engineering solutions and technical input to project cost estimates.
- Sharing technical knowledge and providing guidance to other members of the engineering team.
- Contributing to continuous improvement across electrical engineering processes, products and designs.
- Undertaking occasional international travel to support customers and projects.
What we’re looking for:
Essential
- Degree or equivalent qualification in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant electrical engineering experience.
- Experience in electrical engineering design, development or systems engineering.
- Ability to analyse technical problems and develop practical engineering solutions.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of engineering activities.
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Experience using Autodesk or similar engineering design software.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Valid passport and willingness to undertake occasional overseas travel.
Desirable
