​Birmingham; a city within the West Midlands county is the second largest urban area in the United Kingdom (after London). In the 18th century Birmingham grew to international prominence, taking the town to the forefront of worldwide advances in science, technology, and economic development, producing a series of innovations that laid many of the foundations of modern industrial society. 

Today Birmingham's economy is dominated by the service sector. The city is a major international commercial centre and an important events, retail, transport and conference hub. Home to the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) and International Convention Centre (ICC), Birmingham hosts over 320 events between them every year. 

Birmingham also offers a huge amount for visitors. Birmingham Hippodrome; the busiest and most popular theatre in the UK, welcomes over 520,000 visitors annually and over 36,000 people watch inspirational and varied musical performances by the world famous City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra (CBSO) every year. That’s more than any other UK orchestra. Birmingham also has more Michelin-starred restaurants than any other UK city outside London, with Purnells, Simpsons, Adam's, & Carters flying the flag for the city’s fine dining, which has been lauded by many national and international publications.
