​Basildon, in the county of Essex lies 32 miles east of Central London. The town was created a new town after World War II in 1948 to accommodate the London population overspill from the joining of four small villages - Pitsea, Laindon, Basildon and Vange. The new town, which took the name of Basildon was the most central of the four villages.
