Vehicle Technician (Heavy) - Shropshire - Defence - Attractive - Permanent

A Vehicle Technician (Heavy) is required by a large Defence Systems Organisation working with complex engineering projects on behalf of the MoD. The Vehicle Technician (Heavy) will be based in Shropshire with some occasion travel. The Vehicle Technician (Heavy) will report to the team leader and any work done over 37 hours is time and half but this not guaranteed OT.

The Vehicle Technician (Heavy) opportunity will include vehicle maintenance and will be responsible to repair and service on monthly basis the heavy fleet for the military. Anyone that has experience working on Terrier, Challenger, Titan or Trojan would have a distinct advantage with this application for Vehicle Technician (Heavy).

Vehicle Technician (Heavy) responsibilities as will involve:

  • Carry out planned and reactive maintenance
  • Overhaul and repair on a variety of mechanical equipment and systems
  • Maintain, repair and service on monthly basis the heavy fleet
  • Working on platforms such as: Terrier, Challenger, Titan, Trojan
  • Work to key performance indicators while adhering to the working time directive
  • Repair and the manufacture of components for the Ministry of Defence primarily
  • Carry out a trade specific risk assessment before every task
  • Abide by all Risk Assessments, policies and the law
  • Ensure all tools and equipment that are used are suitable
  • Ensure tools are fit for purpose and in date for inspections required
  • Attend all training courses and briefings where possible
  • Removal, overhaul, repair, installation and testing of mechanical equipment
  • Complete works as detailed by team leader
  • Report all accidents, incidents and near misses via the appropriate reporting tool
  • Help train and mentor apprentices so they become competent

Vehicle Technician (Heavy) Skills and Qualifications should include:

  • If Ex Military, then must be class 1 mechanic VM A (city of guilds level 3)
  • REME A Mech would be of preference for this opportunity
  • Completed an appropriate trade apprenticeship or equivalent qualifications
  • Qualification, experience and knowledge in Mechanical theory and principles
  • Competent in using a wide range of hand tools and equipment
  • Experience and knowledge in carrying out Mechanical maintenance
  • A valid H (Track) license is essential
  • Competent in use of measuring equipment
