Title: Value Stream Leader

Location: Bolton

Salary: £35,000 - £45,000 p/a


We are currently working with our client based in the Bolton area who are currently recruiting for a Value Stream Leader to work within their production department. This is a challenging role that involves directly leading manufacturing teams of production personnel to control quality, cost and delivery within their production area.

The person:

The successful candidate will have strong people leadership and resource management skills to deliver against performance objectives focused on continuous improvement and people development.

The purpose of the job:

  • To ensure H&S excellence runs through the operation and is embedded in the workforce
  • To transform the current shop floor into a modern, performance driven environment built on basic principles of 5S, work flow, daily productivity metrics and waste reduction
  • To create a culture of continuous improvement, through the team leaders, to put the business on a strong journey of iterative improvement week on week
  • To empower the Team Leaders to build their own teams, manage discipline and motivate operators
  • To rapid resolution of issues that crop up that interrupt work and slow the flow
  • To drive towards enduring zero accident rate
  • To implement work cells to 5S programme that sees a 'place for everything' and ring-fencing of unused space
  • To create daily metrics set for each department with daily Team Leader led performance discussions with the operators
  • To reduce the cost of poor quality (COPQ) and cash tied up in WIP to agreed targets
  • To effectively manage a team to set metrics, conduct Appraisals, 1-2-1s, and be confident in dealing with performance and conduct issues in line with HR and Quality policy
  • To ensure savings to the P&L of continuous improvement to agreed targets each year
  • To lead' and coordinate of departmental resources to include Raw Material, Plant, Tooling, Utilities and Labour to achieve departmental targets
  • To liaise with the Design teams to identify engineering improvements, ensuring lead times of product assembly is reduced and accuracy of right first time is improved
  • To facilitate and develop effective communication implementing interactive meetings to foster ownership, understanding and awareness within own department

Experience and skills required:

  • Experience of leading teams on improvement journeys in fabrication and metal businesses
  • Strong background in a fabrication business
  • Wealth of experience in understanding and translating Technical Drawings
  • Knowledge of 5S implementation and setting productivity metrics
  • Demonstrable use and application of core Lean tools and techniques
