Title: UK Government Affairs Manager

Division: Business Strategy

Contract Position based at: London, Whitley or Gaydon

Rate: - up to £598.08/day LTD (c. £455/day PAYE option)

Position Description:

A truly unique opportunity for a Public Affairs professional has arisen to join the Government Affairs team for a major British automotive manufacturer. The business has recently announced a new global strategy, focussing on sustainability for the brands it represents. To accelerate progress towards realising its vision, the business has formed a new team to develop its strategic approach to future battery supply.

The role of UK Government Affairs Manager would suit a self-motivated, delivery-focused candidate, with a keen interest in the automotive sector. The successful candidate will contribute to strengthening the long-term prosperity of the company by engaging and influencing multiple stakeholders across UK Government The potential is incredible. Principal Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with UK Government Affairs team and Government Affairs colleagues in other markets to deliver the company's strategic objectives
  • Coordinate and support engagement activity between the company and UK Government Ministers and officials
  • Integrate and collaborate with colleagues from across the business, including in particular those within the project team
  • Identify, propose and pursue opportunities related to public funding resulting from government initiatives
  • Liaise with funding organisations to define scope of the funds, prepare bids and address all related inquiries and issues
  • Identify, monitor and communicate into the business policy updates that may have an impact on the company's operations
  • Develop and sustain a high level of knowledge of key policy areas as a first point of contact with external and internal stakeholders to support the UK Government Affairs teams activities
  • Develop and maintain the content and accuracy of the UK Government Affairs teams records
  • Produce high quality presentations for internal and external senior level engagement
  • Coach senior management colleagues to engage effectively with UK Government Minister and officials
  • Undertake research and analysis tasks as required
  • Carry out administrative tasks as required

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • Highly organised and able to manage competing priorities and work to tight deadlines

  • Able to work autonomously High level of discretion and confidentiality
  • Minimum 5-year professional experience in a Public Affairs role
  • Exposure to automotive sector policy and its impact on business strategy and operations
  • Exposure to public funding bid management
  • Understanding of political decision-making process
  • A sound understanding of the challenges and opportunities affecting the UK automotive sector

Desirable

  • Automotive sector experience within in-house corporate setting, trade association, consultancy or government
  • Experience of coordinating public funding bids and of working on own initiative

Education:

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent qualification / practical experience. Master`s Degree in relevant subject is preferred
