UK Advanced Quality Engineer

Preston based with travel to other UK plants

Circa £45,000 plus car 25 days holiday, Contributory Pension Scheme, flexible benefits scheme, Medical and Dental scheme and Child Care Vouchers

This reputable manufacturing business has had a footprint in the UK for over 100 years. They develop and manufacture quality products that are used in homes and commercial properties.

The Role:

As the Advanced Quality Engineer your main purpose will be to ensure products and processes meet the company's quality, technical and health & safety standards through collection and analysis of data. To take part in, and actively promote, continuous improvement activities for line side quality.

You will be expected to work primarily in the Preston Plant but have a roaming role to 2 other plants in the south.

As UK Advanced Quality Engineer, you will be expected to:

  • Work with Operational teams to ensure procedures, standards and systems are maintained, monitored and improved
  • Directly Supervise Quality Improvers
  • Collection of production data to feed into data driven improvement activities
  • Investigate and resolve the causes of failure
  • Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support operations teams to ensure process, product and customer requirements are met
  • Product, process and system auditing
  • To provide flexibility to support the Company's manufacturing patterns

Knowledge and Experience

  • Detailed Understand of Management Systems TS16949 and ISO9001
  • Detailed understanding and knowledge of Quality tools & techniques such as, SPC, FMEA, trials, audits, PPAP, ISIR, 8D problem solving, Ishikawa diagrams, control plans, 5s, SMED. Hoshin, Kanban
  • Ability to build close working relationships at all levels
  • Previous experience of working in a Quality/CI environment
  • Attention to detail
  • Use of measuring equipment (Digital calipers, micrometers, CMM)
  • Excellent time management and organisation skills
  • Use of Microsoft Office, especially Word and Excel
  • Reading engineering drawings
  • Sheet metal fabrication, Aluminium casting and machining experience or qualification (desirable)
  • Working knowledge of zero defects/lean philosophy
  • Experience of improvement tools (FMEA, SPC)
  • Root cause analysis tools (8D, cause and effect/Ishikawa, SEA, 5 Whys)
