Title: Test Engineer (Issue Diagnosis) - 377196

Division: Manufacturing Engineering

Contract Position based at: Gaydon and Warwick

Rate; - up to £24.30/hr Ltd rate (which equals c£19/hr PAYE rate option)

Position Description:

The Test & Diagnosis Team is a centralised activity to define customer warranty problems in a way that resolving teams can understand and act fast. The information gained from our data-driven approach is used to support a deeper investigation

The team operate a Diagnosis Centre comprising its own workshop and office based at Nuneaton where they can replicate failures and test parts working collaboratively with suppliers and engineers with access to other test facilities around and throughout the world as necessary.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Inspecting, testing and reporting on failed/fatigued components returned from Warranty.
  • Generate and update test plans to diagnose components / system faults and to replicate the failure mode identified in warranty
  • Evaluation of engineering drawings, specifications, test methods, DFMEA, Control Plan.
  • Execution of test plans: utilizing vehicles, modules and simulators being able to evaluate the results of the tests. A test track and workshop facilities are part of site where the team is based.
  • Instrumenting and using data acquisition methods on whole vehicles and/or vehicle components.
  • Verification of correct diagnostic tool operation and acceptance testing of the diagnostic tools.
  • Processing test data, generating reports and presenting results to relevant personnel.
  • Work with engineering & supplier teams to define warranty issues.
  • Lead / support project review meetings to ensure project / testing is completed on time.
  • Work in partnership with cross-functional teams to achieve operational targets as directed
  • Work with retail centres where appropriate Use metrology, materials labs and statistical methods to diagnose quality issues
  • Conduct investigations into quality problems, including hypothesis testing, gathering and analysing data
  • Support continuous improvement and learning across functions through communication of quality initiatives as directed
  • Ensure internal and external audit compliance to standards including TS16949 and ISO 14001.
  • Take part in JLR specific training where required
  • Undertake any other work as directed by their line manager in connection with their job as may be requested

Skills and Experience Required:

  • Proven experience working in a Testing or Diagnostics role.
  • Strong analytical skills along with the ability to manage and interpret data and test / analysis results
  • Experience of the application and delivery of measurement systems and equipment MS Office skills - experienced using Excel, Word and PowerPoint, as well as diagram
  • Experience of working to tight deadlines in a high volume production environment
  • Proving Ground driving experience / qualification

Education Required:

Holds a degree in a technical discipline

Multiple locations - Must be prepared to work from any of our JLR sites and travel between plants and suppliers will be essential
