Role: Steam Power Plant Operators (Earls Gate)
Location: Grangemouth, Falkirk

Salary: £40,000 p/a (Shifts)

Overview:

We are currently recruiting for a number of Steam Power Plant Operators to work at a brand-new facility In Grangemouth, the role will be to engage in all duties and responsibilities that are required to be fulfilled for the operation and maintenance of gas boilers and the exportation of steam from the first commissioning to the hot commissioning of the Energy from Waste plant.

Duties involved during commissioning:

  • During the commissioning of the Gas boilers and steam export, engage in all aspects of learning, (this includes professional, compulsory, and best practice training/learning) including at companies Sites within England, as well as Earls Gate.
  •  Hands on role to help with the commissioning of plant works, such as: tests, lubrication, cleaning, opening of tanks, monitoring, and control of equipment and machinery.
  • The work in shift (24/7) may start during this period prior the Backup boilers area take over, whereby the day/night shift rota would be confirmed accordingly.
  • Handling of chemical cans and salt bag (25kg max) manually or with a pallet truck for delivery or the filling of tanks.
  • Assist with fault identification and rectification as required in conjunction with the commissioning team.
  • Assist with takeover tests with the commissioning team.
  •  Keep abreast of communicated deadlines and report to the commissioning team, as well as the Operating Manager as work on the plant transitions to the takeover stage.
  • Assure good communications with client for steam export.
  •  Carry out physical duties associated with gas boiler works and plant equipment.
  • Study the operations and maintenance Manual and procedures.
  • Report to the operating manager.
  • Follow the instructions from the commissioning team under the commissioning responsibility for the Gas Boilers and the steam exportation

Duties after Take over:

  • Support the operation of the gas boilers to ensure good steam exportation to clients plant in shift 24/7.
  •  Job holders will perform all works issued from the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) independently, (including, but not limited to) preventative maintenance work, plant/boiler monitoring, creating records, boiler safety tests, water tests, boiler water treatment, steam flow analysis, and waste water analysis.
  • Participate in emergency tests, including those from client while actively learning to operate the plant.
  • Operate within the remit of the Company’s Permit to Work (PtW) system in the gas boiler areas.
  •  Study the operations and maintenance Manual and procedures.
  •  Carry out physical duties associated with gas boiler works and plant equipment.
  • Continue to engage in all aspects of learning, (this includes professional for the Energy from Waste plant, and best practice training/learning)
  • Report to the operating manager 
  • Follow the instructions from the commissioning team under the commissioning responsibility for the Waste from Energy plant.

Person Specification:

Competencies:

  • Commitment - Continually keeping up to date with execution plans (including the schedule and the mobilization of personnel and equipment)
  • Competency - Ability to demonstrate excellent Health and Safety behaviours at all times.
  • Competent/good written and verbal communication skills in English for interfacing with the project Commissioning Teams as well Client representatives.
  • Required to exert physical effort in handling operating plant/machinery, work at height and in confined spaces/restricted entry, supported with relevant training and experience of competency.
  • Able to cope with numerous task focused issues simultaneously whilst keeping to clearly defined time frames for completion of operational activities, without compromising personal or companywide health and safety precautions.
  • Willingness to demonstrate and develop skills that may lead to ongoing enhanced career opportunities with the development of the Energy from Waste Plant, (EfW).
  • Computer Literate – Able to manipulate data on Microsoft packages and basic IT software, (including our internal systems CMMS, and DCS).

Training / Qualifications:

  • Experience in industrial, civil/process engineering, Construction or Power sectors, and/or other related experience in a regulated industry.
  • CCNSG Safety training would be advantageous.
  • Competent with Crane operation, and rigging and slinging experience
  • Certification in First Aid at Work, or equivalent
  • Certificate in Fire Warden/Marshall Training
  • Certificate in IOSH Managing Safely would be advantageous

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience, or knowledge of operating high-pressure boilers and steam turbine plants desirable. 
  • High voltage authorised person electrical experience and qualifications highly desired.
  • Certificate of training and experience of competency with the use of Fork Lift Truck (FLT) and Front Loading Shovel (FLS) vehicles desirable
