Title: Specialist Engineer

Contract Position based at: Gaydon
Rate: Up to £25.41per hour
Reporting directly to the JLR Axle Architecture Technical Leader, this is a Systems Engineering / CAD role covering, Suspension, Subframes, Steering, Brakes, Wheels, tyres, envelopes, Drive train etc - Working with Attribute areas + Component Ts's to develop a clear set of requirements / targets / Commodity strategies - Developing the package & initial feasibility of new & innovative axle and suspension systems. Often investigating several options from which one or two ideas generally progress. - Axle architecture benchmarking - working with the JLR Suspension TS's. Additionally, generate initial Technical summary of significant new competitor vehicle axles. - Summarising findings in clear ways explaining issues and potential solutions. Represent Axle Concept team at appropriate Technical Compatibility Discussions. - Use the best problem solving and system selection tools / processes - The role requires cross functional working / communication within & outside Chassis engineering to establish & deliver compatible solutions - Good project management and issue tracking skills.
Use Catia v5 CAD & TCe (TeamCentre) to carry out axle layout & geometrical package studies, clash detection, generating static and dynamic clearance envelopes with the objective of creating a feasible set of components in the target vehicle package inc. ground lines & tyre envelops.
Demonstrate an expertise in vehicle underbody components, especially Chassis and suspension parts + Body structures & Powertrain components. Able to understand their functional requirements / boundaries and apply this to CAD / Geometric solutions.
Able to structure and populate Virtual Product Manager database with component geometry, drawings, assemblies and schemes. Able to guide others in this activity to ensure a compatible product structure.
Several years of axle / Suspension concept design and development from Program Kick Off to Proof of Concept. Catia V5 or equivalent CAD system user (good level, typically 5+ years full time use) for the creation of vehicle components (training available tbc). The candidate should have a higher education qualification in Mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline.
TeamCentre Engineering usage. Enovia VPM usage. Catia V6 usage. Experience of JLR or Ford product creation processes, methods and systems is an advantage. A full degree in mechanical engineering is preferred.
