Job Title: Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ) Officer

Location: West Midlands

Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 p/a

Overview:

  • We are currently recruiting a Safety, Health, Environment & Quality (SHEQ) Officer for our client based in the West Midlands the role will be responsible for supporting the SHEQ Manager in all aspects of managing, developing and improving their Health & Safety.
  • The role is to administer and manage systems to provide audit feedback on our systems and develop their implementation further. In addition, you will provide support and guidance to employees in relation to compliance with our certificated and non-certificated management systems.

Applicants for this role will be required to work with and support the SHEQ Manager to:

  • Contribute to the management and ongoing certification for the following systems:
    • ISO9001:2015
    • ISO14001:2015
    • BS EN OHSAS18001: 2007 (To be converted to ISO45001 when the ISO is published)
    • Lift Directive 2014/EU33
    • BS25999 Business Continuity Management (to be upgraded to ISO22301 and certificated)
    • FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme)
  • Undertake an annual programme of internal audits for all systems
  • Support the administration of the vehicle fleet when required
  • Administer waste disposal as part of the ISO14001 system
  • Administer an annual training programme, training provision and records including the delivery of in house training and tool box talks
  • Provide inductions for new employees at the branches where they are employed
  • Assess applicants for inclusion in our approved list of suppliers and administer subcontractor SHEQ compliance
  • Measure, monitor and collate KPIs for all of the SHEQ systems and Fleet
  • Administer security provisions of premises, vehicles, equipment and materials
  • Produce generic and specific COSHH and Risk Assessments and Method Statements for works the Company undertakes
  • Produce CDM2015 Construction Phase Plans for site works
  • Be prepared to regularly work away from the Cradley Heath office base

You will also be required to:

  • Receive a clear DBS enhanced check
  • Work in a team under direction of the SHEQ Manager and Director responsible for the systems
  • Undertake and pass a Construction Skills Certification Scheme test card if they do not already possess a CSCS card
  • Work with the managers of branches, their administration and engineering teams as required
  • Be available to receive calls from mobile operatives out of normal hours if they require advice on SHEQ or Fleet matters
  • Be involved in the development of SHEQ and Fleet related worksheets and templates for deployment on field engineering team PDAs.
  • Attend and take part in a large employee committee covering health, safety, welfare and environmental matters.

The successful applicant will have the following experience and qualifications:

  • Full driving license
  • An NVQ qualification of relevance to the role, at Level 3 or higher, so as to be considered a competent advisor, e.g. NEBOSH or IOSH
  • Membership, or eligibility for membership of, the International Institution of Risk and Safety Management, the Association for Project Safety or a similar professional body membership of relevance
  • A demonstrable knowledge of workplace health and safety, environmental and quality management
  • Knowledge of the Construction (Design & Management) Regulations 2015
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a systems management role
  • Preferably an auditor qualification or proven experience
  • Proven track record of contributing to the maintenance of an ISO management system programme
