This rapidly growing SME Advanced engineering firm provides high value, low to medium volume components to a variety of sectors, including automotive and aerospace. The organisation is increasing volumes and output and now requires adding expertise to its purchasing team.

As part of a purchasing function, we are looking to speak to purchasing and procurement professionals that have worked in a manufacturing and engineering environment, we do need candidates to read and understand engineering and technical drawings as you will be working very closely with NPI and NPD engineering teams.

Reporting directly to the Purchasing Lead, this role focuses on developing, implementing, and managing the Commercial terms, design for manufacture suitability of components within both the project and commodity environment.

  • To help develop and maintain commodity and supplier strategies in line with the department’s requirements.
  • To actively contribute to special projects as the procurement lead and expert
  • To support the Purchasing departments deliverables in terms of Project Purchasing and Engineering Change Responses (Technical Purchasing)
  • Understanding and analysis of bill of materials.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead/Support and manage sourcing for new projects from concept through D&D and ensure a suitable high performing supply chain is in place, to deliver production requirements (low volume and/or multi-year higher volume contracts)
  • Develop and maintain purchasing documentation and processes to ensure all key stakeholders are clearly updated at the appropriate points
  • Lead specific commodity and supply strategies through to delivery/implementation
  • Delivering Purchasing KPIs focused around QCD metrics
  • Purchasing Lead in project team meetings and information flow. This will involve working cross-functionally with other departments and internal customers (e.g., Engineering, Prototype Build, BOM, Planning & Stores etc.)
  • Lead supplier negotiations with regards to the (QCD elements) around new technologies and design improvements, to ensure value for money and that all QCD production targets can be met.
  • Identifying and assessing suitability of new suppliers, to aid delivery of the Commodity  or Programme
  • In response to engineering changes, project demands and requisitions, source components and materials in compliance with the approved suppliers list, company procedures and at pricing and timing to meet business needs.
  • Loading purchase orders in line with best practise and company procedures
  • Maintain up to date delivery dates on MRP system to ensure visibility of arrival dates.
  • Support the expediting of purchased components where necessary, to achieve due date adherence. Resolving or escalating any issues as required.
  • Support day to day project requirements as required, where necessary provide escalation route to the expediting function.
  • Always maintain best working practices and compliance with Company Procedures and Health & Safety Policy.

We are keen for candidates to have the following:

  • Literate in MS Office applications
  • Highly numerate
  • Working knowledge of SAGE 200 Manufacturing or very similar with particular focus on BOM development and Works Orders structure.
  • Understand technical drawings and bills of materials
  • Knowledge of precision manufacturing processes and materials
  • Communicating to internal and external stakeholders
  • Significant experience of purchasing within a similar engineering environment
  • Confident in negotiating a price / lead time balance in order to maximise the value of the outcome for the company

This role requires candidates with excellent communication skills, the ability to hold technical and commercial conversations both internally and externally with the global supplier base.
