Senior Stress Engineer - Tewkesbury

An exciting role has opened for a Senior Stress Engineer to join an established engineering team at the Tewkesbury UK facility of a leading engineering company who produce civil and military aircraft hydraulic components.

As the Senior Stress Engineer, you will perform static stress and fatigue calculations, make design recommendations, assess part non-conformances, support failure investigations, produce analysis reports and coordinate test work required to verify analysis models. You will also support the growth of stress analysis skills across the engineering team through development of standard work and mentoring.

This role will be ideal for someone who is able to work under pressure and adhere to timescales and who enjoys extremely varied projects.

You will be required to:

  • Demonstrate experience from working on multiple customer focused applications as an engineer involved in the stress analysis of metallic structures using a broad range of standard hand and computer calculation methods.
  • Show capability in finite element (FE) analysis should range from simplified 2D to detailed 3D solid modelling, with large models, complex boundary conditions, contact and non-linear behaviour.
  • You will be able to validate FE models using hand calculations to demonstrate static load balance and correlation to theoretical assumptions.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of aerospace materials and a good understanding of the influence of manufacturing processes on the strength of components.

Key Expertise
* Degree qualified or equivalent in mechanical engineering or similar related subject
* Able to demonstrate an analytical, problem solving approach to your work
* Self-motivated and able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
* Knowledge of metallic materials, their mechanical, static and fatigue properties is essential. A good working knowledge of aerospace materials, data sources and methods is desirable.
* Understanding of the influence of manufacturing processes on the strength of components is essential.
* Static strength and classical fatigue analysis experience is essential. Some knowledge of fracture mechanics and damage tolerance analysis is desirable
* Experience in hand calculations is essential, experience in MS Excel, Mathcad, Siemens NX, ANSYS or ANSYS Workbench and NASGRO is desirable.
* Experience working with precision metallic components is essential, experience with hydraulic systems is desirable
