Summary of Department and Role

 

The Cockpit team are responsible for the design and development of the following aggregate systems:

 

- Instrument panel, main body and associated panels

- Cross car beam

- Centre console

- Floor console (front and rear)

- Steering wheel and nacelles

- HVAC vents and ducting

 

The PE for Cockpit will need outstanding engineering skills together with experience of leading cockpit systems design and development from concept to production on at least one of the above systems.

 

Main Activities and Tasks

 

-To deliver cockpit engineering project work for the parent company as part of the Vehicle Concept Group Deliverables of Pre-Kick Off Investigations, Design Feasibility support and liaison with TML Engineering and suppliers

-CAD operation skills required - The successful candidate will be able to create and manipulate geometry for primary communication of concepts/schemes. (Expectation 20% time utilisation for geometry generation)

-Catia v5 operative skills - Generation of 3D geometry, 2D data and sectional data. (Key module utilisation: Part design and geometric surface design

-TCUA (Team Centre) PLM utilisation

-To provide technical support to TML in cockpit engineering to ensure all engineering, legislative, craftsmanship, cost and quality targets are met

-Assist in the development of engineering proposals of work

-Present cockpit engineering at senior management and project reviews

-Report and utilise information to address cockpit engineering issues from reviews

-Address cockpit team issues to ensure team objectives are controlled and met

-Support the development of the surfaces and design

-Arranging and supporting design reviews

-Interface with Package, Analysis, Manufacturing, DCA etc and implement recommendations where appropriate to create a right first-time release

-Support the development of project documentation

Other Features of the Role

 

-Up to 1 week/month travel to India

-Travel to test facilities, suppliers and other locations world-wide on an as required basis to support programmes (will be taken into consideration with travel to India)

Desirable - Degree qualification or similar qualification

Desirable - Working towards chartered status or already chartered
