Our client is an established market leader in the special purpose machinery field, and are seeking to recruit a self-motivated, proactive and dynamic Senior Design Engineer to join their team due to the retirement of their current Senior Design Engineer.

Based in the Dudley area, the successful candidate will be tasked with working as part of a focused global Engineering team that supports the Sales group in developing coil processing machinery for the steel industry.

The successful Senior Design Engineer will demonstrate a strong engineering background with an emphasis on mechanical design and with the ability to meet deadlines as required.


In this hands-on role as Senior Design Engineer, you will be tasked with:-

  • Leading a small team of mechanical engineers, coordinating all aspects of the design engineering work
  • Establishing detailed designs using company engineering methods and best-practices
  • Creating mechanical designs using 3D/2D CAD software programs including Inventor & Auto CAD
  • Generate/review machine calculations, stress, deflections, bearing life, power etc
  • Assist in specification and selection of proprietary components
  • Deliver monthly project and resource status reports to the Group Engineering Manager
  • Liaise with all departments within the group providing technical support as required
  • Liaise with the customers, establishing a technical rapport, partaking in site visits as required with overseas travel when necessary


To be considered for this varied and challenging Senior Design Engineer role, you will have: -

  • Previous experience in the manufacturing machine building industry - steel processing / press machines ideally but not essential
  • Be educated to Degree/HNC level
  • Experience of supervising a team
  • Experience in the use of Inventor and AutoCAD for both 2D and 3D design or Solidworks
  • Strong communication skills at all levels
  • Proficiency with the MS suite of Office programs
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Proven problem solving skills
