Senior Systems and Controls Engineer – Clean Power Systems - Sheffield - £ Highly Competitive DOE

Our client are a world leader in cleaner power, utilising Linear Power System technology for a wide range of applications, including the delivery of exceptional heavy duty powertrain performance using renewable fuels. The company is now seeking a Senior Systems and Controls Engineer to hold responsibility for the control and power electronics aspects of the Linear Power Systems, including the specification, analysis, outline design, detailed design, procurement, initial build and review.

As Senior Systems and Controls Engineer - You will be required to

  • Contribute to each phase of product development from specifications and outline design development through to production-ready systems, applying your knowledge to engineer high performance electro-mechanical control and power conversion solutions.
  • Analyse systems and circuitry including dynamic positional control, electrical ratings, heat dissipation & cooling, packaging, EMC & noise mitigation
  • Select and manage third parties responsible for panel build and wiring, PCB design/layout, power module selection and integration
  • Commissioning, fault-finding and validation of power conversion systems presently rated up to 800V and 200kW
  • Work with both internal and external partners to specify and validate software functionality
  • Work with Simulation Engineers to optimise design for e-machine and system performance
  • Work with Lead Project Engineers to ensure project deliverables are met
  • Within 3 months you will have commissioned controls and power conversion systems on-site and successfully integrated and validated their associated control software
  • Within 6 months you will have validated your designs on prototype systems assembled and tested, incorporate enhancements and innovations identified through prototype development into successive generations of controller designs
  • Within 12 months you will be leading conceptual design and development activities on new projects, drawing on a growing library of Linear Power Systems design elements validated on previous projects.

As Senior Systems and Controls Engineer – You will have

  • 6+ years’ design experience in a related high-tech manufacturing environment
  • A degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Control Engineering or a related discipline
  • Be familiar with simulation and control development toolsets e.g.NI Labview & Compact Realtime IO (cRIO), Matlab-Simulink
  • Proficient/Advanced user of relevant design software applications with responsibility for development of complete system drawing packages including version control and quality management
  • Experience in engineering design, development, prototyping, testing and design validation
  • Ability to work on concurrent projects, ensuring deadlines are met on time
  • Organized way of working with a disciplined approach to documentation
  • Excellent communication skills and proven ability to effectively manage third-party suppliers
  • A methodical and ‘hands-on’ approach to diagnosing and remedying issues on complex electro-mechanical systems
