Job title: Senior Buyer

Salary Range: £32,000 to £37,000 Per annum

Hours: 37.5-hour week

Location: Bolton

Permanent role working for a leading defence design and development client.

A Senior Buyer is required with knowledge of procuring materials and services in line with technical, production and commercial requirements, developing and maintaining current supplier relationships whilst managing internal stakeholders to identify, manage and report risks/opportunities within the business.

Applicants with experience in purchasing within the Nuclear and/or Oil and Gas sectors with a Degree/MCIPS accreditation (or working towards) would be well received.

Due to ongoing new projects this client based in Bolton requires a dynamic, leading Senior Buyer to work on a permanent basis. As a Senior Buyer, you will be required to:

      Planning deliveries to optimise production output and pricing discounts

Involvement in the negotiation of contracts with key suppliers

Obtaining alternative quotations to optimise quality, price, payments terms and delivery

Ensure material lists and requisitions contain the appropriate levels of authorisation

Prepare purchase orders, approve and issue purchase orders in accordance with company policy and negotiated terms and conditions

Supply chain management and contract management experience

Maintain procurement files and records.

Ensure supplier compliance with site and company safety requirements.

Support the vendor relationships and assist in building effective partnership

Liaise with Accounts Payable Department to ensure accurate and timely payment of invoices, as necessary for the business with the supplier

Selection of the most appropriate goods and services on the basis of specification, price, quality, delivery times and services support Inventory management/Kanban management.

Any other ad hoc duties as may be required, commensurate with the grade of the post

To attend a daily production meeting with internal stakeholders to ensure all delivery requirements are met to maximise operational efficiency and output.

Develop short-, medium- and long-term procurement plans, enabling foresight within the department of future project buying requirements and highlighting long lead time items early.

Streamline the internal procurement process to reduce the overall lead time for products and services offered by the business

The Senior Buyer should have the following skills or experience:

      Be able to make decisions, meet targets and work under pressure

Effective negotiation skills and confidence when dealing with people

The ability to work in cross-functional teams

Planning and organising with good attention to detail

Experience in purchasing role in the Nuclear and/or Oil and Gas sectors

Competence in use of Microsoft Office, especially Outlook, Excel, Word and Access

Team player


      Degree qualified / MCIPS accredited (or working towards) is preferable

Full UK Driving License

Experience of procurement through an MRP systems

Takes ownership and accountability

Professional demeanour and approach to management of self and others

Be able to travel the UK to visit suppliers
