Job title: Quality Technician
Salary Range: £35k
Location: Rugby, UK
We are currently recruiting a Quality Technician for an Aerospace company in Rugby. Please note, it is compulsory for this role to have a metallurgical or material science qualification.
Main Purpose of Position:
You will be working within the Material Testing Laboratory and will be responsible for the inspection, non-destructive testing and destructive testing of product. Your role as a Quality Technician will be to ensure that the manufactured products are compliant with the relevant technical specifications and customer drawings through inspection
Your main duties will be as followed:
To provide technical assistance on metallurgical defects and mechanical test failures.
To take a lead in ensuring that processes are completed as required.
Use 8D methodology to problem solve quality issues, including dimensional, mechanical, and metallurgical defects
To provide detailed Quality Reports and analysis for the Quality Assurance Manager.
Undertake any other duties/responsibilities as reasonably requested by management
In addition to the above, the employee may be asked to perform any of the following depending on skills and training:
To carry out non-destructive testing to include Magnetic Particle Inspection and Dye Penetrant Inspection. Level II NDT is required with evidence of training and examinations.
To carry out metallographic inspection on in-process and finished parts
To carry out grade 3 calibration duties (see separate job description for duties)
To carry out pre-plate and after plate inspection in accordance with the relevant work instructions.
To carry out Hydrogen and Oxygen analysis in accordance with the relevant work instructions.
To carry out 'final view' inspection, ensuring that all information is present and correct for each manufacturing order.
To check that information on test reports and Certificates of Conformance's are in accordance with the customers' requirements before signing for their release for shipment.
To carry out mechanical tests including: tensile, shear, fatigue, hardness checks, stress durability and stress endurance tests, all in accordance with the relevant work instructions.
To review incoming raw material certificates
Quality Control Technicians may also be required to perform internal audits to AS9100 requirements
To be cross trained into the plating or other department where there are no conflict of interest.
Undertake any other duties/responsibilities as reasonably requested by management.
- Qualification in Metallurgy or Material Science
- The ability to use measuring equipment e.g micrometres, verniers and optical projectors.
- An understanding of material testing processes and how they work
- Good understanding of technical drawings
