UK's leading the development of vehicle electrification in the UK. We are looking for either a Research Fellow or Project Engineer in Functional Safety to work as part of a cross functional team bringing these innovative technology building blocks to novel vehicle electrification solutions.
You will be working on diverse and novel applications and you will need to be able to apply your functional safety knowledge across sectors and to novel technologies. You will need to be able to evidence your capability in the area of systems engineering with experience of applying novel techniques such as Systems Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA) for safety analysis. Additionally experience with ISO 26262 and ISO 21448 (or corresponding aviation, rail or manufacturing standards) is required along with experience in safety case development. The work carried out in this role has a potential to influence future national and international (ISO) standards. The successful applicant will be exposed to variety of industries - aviation, automotive, marine, healthcare etc. and will be working collaboratively with industrial partners.

You will be employed to work on the Vehicle Electrification Systems Team in collaboration with industry and academic partners. The Department are particularly interested in candidates with experience in the areas of Systems Engineering, Safety Analysis using STPA (Systems Theorectic Process Analysis), and functional safety analysis for control systems.
To work on a number of individual projects the area of Safety Analysis of Complex Systems - Electrification across sectors such as Aerospace, Automotive, Rail, off-Highway and Marine - within the Department in order to pursue individual and collaborative research of high quality consistent with making a full active research contribution to the Department in line with its research strategy.
To assist in developing a safety analysis framework for Electric Aviation and Electric Vehicles using Systems Theoretic Process Analysis (STPA).
To help create a framework for safety case development across sectors.
To support research and industrial projects in the area of functional safety.
To establish a sound approaches and techniques in the area of safety analysis of complex systems across industry sectors.
To create a framework for safety case development using new and existing techniques (such as STPA) that fits within the regulatory frameworks..
To share information with colleagues and produce recommendations.
To manage research aspects of the project including contributing to academic publications, technical reports and other presentations and dissemination methods
To assist with the development and delivery of teaching and training materials to disseminate the research findings in a format that will encourage successful implementation.
To identify, operate and install suitable equipment to support the project objectives. Carrying out suitable tests to evaluate the equipment performance effect on product to push forward the boundaries of current knowledge in each topic area.
To record and track the delivery of outputs during research & identify routes for achievement of targets.
