Job Description

Summary of Department & Role

  1. Lead Annual Processes to identify potential segments of entry for Tata Motors
  2. Work with India &UK teams to support Pre-KO process &ongoing programme development to <DR0> for future products
  3. Define & establish vehicle & aggregate benchmarking activities based out of UK and support India team in Target setting
  4. Ensure future projects include competitive new feature content
  5. Incorporate JLR learning into Tata Motors
  6. Support for TCDS, Gen 3 NPI & others like Mint 3 etc
  7. Developing & deploying organization wide framework for Competency Mapping & requirement & Learning Modules to impart Innovation
  8. Ensure Product Line process & targets being met: BSC preparation, Cascading, MIS & Review cadence


Main Activities Product Planning

  1. In conjunction withTML define & deploy a robust Annual Process to identify the vehicle segments relevant forTata Motors
    1. Define methodology for Annual process by incorporating JLR learnings via the NIAC.
    2. Establish business intelligence to pre-empt competitor's product launches in India
    3. Benchmark relevant products in UK/EU covering all attributes
    4. Liaise with Indian Product Planning and Sales & Marketing team to provide relevant inputs to develop the Product plan
    5. Conduct Global trend analysis & its impact on Indian Auto industry
  2. Support Pre-KO process for future products by engaging with the cross functional team of Designers, Engineers, Product Planners and Attributes team

Process Support for TCDS,Gen 3 NPI & supporting processes (e.g Mint 3)

  1. Support Business Unit in deployment delivery of NPI, TCDS process and powertrain development process
  2. Support Program Delivery Success Review process at Business Unit
  • Support to debottleneck any MiNT 3 Engineering Issues

Developing competency mapping framework & training Modules

  1. Support HR in creating/deploying competency framework
  2. Adherence to competency program - define, map the current situation, bridge the gaps, trainings
  • Conduct training for Business Unit members and also support for creation of online training portal for TMETC specific training

Target Setting, MIS & Review Cadence

  1. Development of BSC for the department
  2. Develop & deploy company-wide MIS for effective communication
  • Establish project review cadence for monitoring adherence to Time and Cost targets

Person Specification

Qualifications and Knowledge

Degree qualified or similar qualification minimum, PhD qualification desirable.

Likely to be of Chartered status.

Demonstrates depth of knowledge in a relevant technical speciality or an acknowledged industry expert in one or more areas

Knowledgeable in vehicle attributes

Awareness of the product development process like NPI &TCDS

Experience in subjective assessment of vehicles including benchmarking

Relevant Skills and Experience

Develops innovative solutions for problems, identifies gaps &recommends alternative solutions

Capable of defining, developing and managing a project autonomously with minimal need for support for a Chief Engineer

Capable of managing complex projects and providing leadership to a project team of significant size

Pays prompt attention to administration duties for the effective performance of the team and consistently achieves forecast performance objectives e.g. Appraisals, Timesheets, Proposals, Orders, Invoices

Takes responsibility for process improvement and communicates this to staff at all levels

Able to translate business plan into individual objectives for staff

Ensures procedures and quality standards are clearly communicated and actioned

Generates new ideas with appropriate action plans. Demonstrates feasibility of ideas
