Principal Rural Energy Project Officer

An Principal Rural Energy Project Officer is required by Nottingham City Council to effectively manage their rural community energy fund.


This role will be to report directly to the Regional Energy Projects Manager and will be situated within the Energy Services division. You will undertake engaging with rural community groups, supporting them to successfully access the Fund

As an Principal Rural Energy Project Officer your duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Manage the day-to-day operation of the Midlands Rural Community Energy Fund
  • Form a key part of the regional energy projects team, with responsibility for community energy project development across the Midlands.
  • Manage the financial aspect of the existing Rural Community Energy Fund
  • Ensuring Community Groups manage their grant funding spend appropriately
  • Develop additional energy project funds, where appropriate, and develop and maintain energy generation projects
  • Agreeing grants / loans, keeping processes, procedures and evidence up to date, assessing and reporting performance, ensuring accuracy of recharging and complying with data capture requirements are all vital to the position
  • Carry out energy project assessments
  • Identify energy project potential within the Midlands
  • Manage energy projects through to completion


As an Principal Rural Energy Project Officer you will require the following skills and experiences:

  • A background working on energy project or similar, ideally with local communities
  • An appreciation for financials and budgets is essential
  • The ideal applicant will have strong stakeholder management abilities
  • Candidates with an interest in the application and development of new technologies would be of interest
  • Strong analytical skills would be beneficial


*The role will involve, on occasion working outside of normal working hours and travel across the East and West Midlands.*
