The Electrical department`s primary function is to support Tata Motors' Electrical departments in both passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles divisions. Areas of competency include energy storage systems (batteries and battery management systems), electrical distribution systems, power systems, system integration, high voltage electric vehicle systems and supplier process development.

This role is operating within a team developing algorithms for hybrid and electric vehicle supervisory control, transmission control, thermal control and autonomous vehicle demonstrators. The team works across the entire development process including requirements capture, control algorithm design and auto-coding, requirements based tested, control system integration and in-vehicle commissioning and calibration. The team is also responsible for component and system plant modelling which it uses for model-based development and testing. The role is project based and will involve elements of all of the operations that the team is involved in.


Main Activities & Tasks

- Primarily the development, testing and calibration of advanced algorithms for:
- Hybrid vehicle control
- Thermal system control
- Rig and vehicle prototype validation
- Autonomous vehicle control
- Management of the delivery of the controls aspects of the vehicle for both demonstrator and production intent vehicles
- Management of code verification and validation including process development in these areas
- Support for controls hardware specification for both rapid prototype and production controllers
- Assist with system specification, integration and engineering
- Support the transition of control systems from Advanced Engineering into mainstream product development
- FMAs
- Diagnostics development
- Hardware specification
- Integration with basic software
- Testing and verification

Other Features of the Role

- Must be prepared for frequent travel, especially to India
- Role will involve a mixture of office based, lab based, workshop based and track based activity

Qualifications

Desirable - Degree qualified or similar qualification
Desirable - Working towards chartered status or already chartered

Knowledge

Essential - Demonstrates depth of knowledge in a relevant technical speciality
Desirable - Understanding and appreciation of EV/hybrid powertrain components and architectures
Desirable - Understanding of ISO26262 requirements for software development
Desirable - Understanding of software component integration in an AUTOSAR environment
Desirable - Vehicle dynamics controls knowledge will be an advantage
Desirable - Understanding of control software development and software architecture for autonomous vehicles

Experience

Essential - Experienced user of MATLAB/Simulink/Stateflow for embedded control system design and validation along with familiarity of powertrain modelling
Essential - Experience with calibration tools, eg INCA or CANape
Essential - Experience with rapid prototyping tools for building and testing code for in-vehicle or on rig implementation
Essential - Experienced with rig and vehicle level validation testing inc. defining test specifications and instrumentation requirements
Desirable - Familiar with electrical debugging on vehicle, eg harnessing, continuity checking, isolation checking etc
Essential - Experience with software version control tools, requirements management, software change request (SCR) management
