Power Electronics Design Engineer – Gateshead - £ Competitive + Excellent benefits

A Power Electronics Design Engineer is required for a thriving electric drives company. The successful candidate will be responsible for design, developing, implementing and testing Power Electronic hardware and software solutions. You will work on a diverse range of cutting-edge applications, notably involving the application of electric drives for high speed electric machines.

As Power Electronics Design Engineer – you will be required to

Generate design solutions to meet the project requirements using prototyping, simulation, validation and test techniques.

Ensuring that all Power Electronic design solutions are robust, reliable, meet the budgeted cost and are on time.

Support related activities such as producing drawings and printed circuit board development.

Liaise with test and production departments during product introduction process, including test rig design.

Support with the installation and commissioning of equipment at the customers premises.

Prepare materials for design reviews.  Provide advice on all aspects of design and engineering to management and staff to ensure effective decision making.

As Power Electronics Design Engineer - you will need

A degree in Electrical and/or Electronic Engineering, with a focus on power electronics.

Design and test experience of Power Electronic Converters (AC/AC, DC/DC, DC/AC) and/or Motor Drives. Be able to demonstrate experience in using simulation tools including Matlab/Simulink.

Knowledge of Power Electronics Design, Analogue and Systems Engineering, Digital Electronics, System Simulation, Semiconductor Switching devices and thermal design, specification of electromagnetic assemblies.

Knowledge of EMC and mitigation through design. Awareness of Embedded Systems and Control Engineering

Applicants must have excellent communication skills, and potentially have gained experience in the automotive, rail, defence, energy and industrial power products industries.
