Payroll Assistant

Pay Rate: up to £15.21 Ltd – inside IR35

Division: HR

Contract Position based at: Halewood, Merseyside

6 months – ASAP start

Position Description:

The Payroll Assistant will ensure that all employees are paid accurately and on time, meeting all statutory returns and payment deadlines, and coordinate Division’s reporting to ensure Company data is accurate and distributed in a timely manner. You will be responsible for maintaining and reporting on all payroll metrics and for adherence to HMRC rules and processes associated with this, working with the Finance Department to ensure this.

Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities

  • Check and submit the monthly payroll using the Company Payroll system
  • Work closely with Managers to correct any discrepancies or issues with the Payroll file
  • Ensure that all statutory and voluntary deductions are correct and paid in a timely manner
  • Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing systems to ensure timely and accurate processing of payroll transactions including salaries, benefits, taxes, and other deductions.
  • Implement new time and attendance system and payroll software to enable payroll to be processed accurately in-house
  • Ensure accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates
  • Handle pay queries from employees ad hoc; manage and resolve any issues relating to pay
  • Liaise with managers to ensure overtime data is submitted accurately and on time.
  • Support all internal and external audits related to payroll
  • Maintain general ledger with regards to payroll transactions
  • Oversee compliance with statutory reporting and filing requirements
  • Prepare and review payroll account reconciliations
  • Build all new starters on payroll and T&A System
  • Make all employee changes including new roles, shift patterns on payroll and T&A System

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Proven experience in managing a payroll for a fast-paced (ideally Manufacturing) organisation.
  • Experience running a payroll of 300+ employees
  • Strong technical Payroll knowledge; knowledge of HMRC guidelines; Pension regulations.
  • Proven ability to prioritise workload and competing to deadlines.
  • Personable, happy to liaise with employees to resolve any pay queries or issues.
  • Advanced Excel skills; strong reporting skills
  • The ability to work with all stakeholders within the Organisation
  • Experience of implementing an in-house Payroll system would be advantageous
