NPI Manager – Halesowen

Our client is a growing business within the engineering, industrial and aerospace sectors.  Alongside this growth, there is an increasing range in complexity of product and customer development activities around their tooling product solutions. To support these positive challenges, the business is building up its project management capability and an experienced NPI Manager is now sought to develop and lead the NPI activity within the company.

Main duties

  • Run the NPI process for multiple projects. Co-ordinate and support different contributing teams including product development, purchasing, sales, marketing, QA, production engineering and manufacturing
  • Design and implement best practice program management, tools and processes to support project delivery performance
  • Prepare timing plans for projects, ranging from new product programs to small engineering changes. Communicate initiation of projects and secure agreement on deadlines for activities with the responsible departments and external customers
  • Lead new product projects with minimal complexity where the majority of the work resides within the existing company departments. This will include sourcing and close collaboration with sales and the customer facing teams
  • Support strategic work to reduce costs and take cost out of the BOM to open new commercial opportunities
  • Participate in and lead DFMEAs to ensure product reliability
  • Perform root cause analysis and resolve problems as required
  • Support QA to manage parts through the PPAP process
  • Work and act independently at a management level. Work on multiple projects
  • Create the planning documentation for the business and the various departments
  • Monitor progress and completion of tasks across multiple departments. Where needed chase to ensure completion of overdue and at-risk tasks, working with departments to find solutions to any roadblocks. Exercise judgement to sign off completion of tasks
  • Escalate issues to Senior Manager / Director level where a resolution cannot be found within the project
  • Provide status updates and KPIs on projects to the business giving visibility and insight into project progress, risks etc
  • Run and chair project meetings as necessary for the smooth delivery of the projects
  • Lead post-launch reviews and lessons learned. Ensure lessons are incorporated into future projects

Qualifications and Experience

  • Strong capability in project planning and task identification
  • Relevant qualifications: manufacturing or engineering preferred
  • Extensive experience in machining, and/or engineering and/or product introduction
  • Strong experience with a range of project management tools. MS Project proficiency is essential
  • Strong process awareness along with manufacturing techniques
  • Knowledge and familiarity with main QA tools
  • Experience delivering complex engineering or NPI projects on time
