Summary of Department & Role

 

TMETC`s Engineering Quality department provides support to the Head of Engineering Quality, Tata Motors, focussing on the following key areas:

 

•  Engineering Sign Off (ESO) and Automotive Safety Office (ASO)

•  Requirements Management Design Verification & Validation RMDV2)

•  ISO 26262 functional safety

•  BS6 requirements planning and implementation

•  Customer quality corrective actions (FMQ)

 

Reporting to the Chief Engineer – Engineering Quality, the Lead Engineer – Engineering Sign Off, will lead TMETC’s input to Tata Motors Engineering Sign-Off activities, whilst providing further support across all Engineering Quality work streams as required.

 

The role is focussed on identifying technical & project timing risks and communicating these to senior management in the context of business risk.  This will therefore require a wide range of automotive knowledge and programme delivery experience in order to identify critical paths in NPI timing, and the ability to conduct technical reviews of data and evidence in support of product verification and validation.  A good understanding of the application of Design Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) and its translation to Design Verification Plans (DVPs) is required to encourage the application of best practice.

 

The Lead Engineer must demonstrate excellent communication, and negotiation skills with an ability to challenge, influence and develop existing processes in a multi-cultural environment.

 

Main Activities & Tasks

 

  • Management of TMETC support to Tata Motors Engineering Sign Off activities
  • Lead the deployment of the ESO process to PV & CV vehicle and powertrain programmes (knowledge of BS6 powertrain requirements would be a distinct advantage)
  • Populate and maintain project risk status (knowledge of requirements, issues and risk management applications will be an advantage)
  • Report project risks to Senior Management and Executive Leadership Teams
  • Identify and develop opportunities for improved verification and validation methods
  • Support ESO best practice and knowledge sharing between TML and group companies
  • Support 8D resolutions to identified issues
  • Attend weekly VC meetings with TML based ESO team and provide guidance on ESO process
  • Develop/maintain key relationships with TML ESO team and senior engineers / managers

•  Based at TMETC UK Office

•  Travel to the Engineering Facility in Pune India (minimum 6 times per annum)

 

Qualifications

 

Desirable – Degree qualified or similar qualification minimum

Desirable – Chartered Engineer (or working towards Chartership)

Essential – Broad understanding of automotive vehicle and system technologies

Essential – Understanding of product delivery processes (NPI/GPDS etc.)

Essential – BS6 engine technology and implementation
