Electronics Engineer - NPI/Innovation - Burton on Trent - 2nd tier Automotive

Our client is part of a large multinational organisation that designs and manufactures interior mechatronic comfort products - small modules. The group itself is vast but the UK office at Burton is a long established but small R&D development centre that focuses on UK and overseas customers. The UK R&D office numbers 10 staff so there are small company advantages with large company finances.

The appeal of this role is that it is a broad electronics role (some hardware, software and mech) on purely new product innovation (ie advanced engineering). You will work in a team of two people and the role will be split 80% on systems and electronics engineering and 20% project management

What you will do

As lead engineer on new products you will report to the "Knowledge Owner" (sets the innovation road map) but interface with the wider global organisation on new product development. These will consist of never-done-before products and so you will work from business case pitching, through to validated demonstration of concept ie validated prototypes.

- work closely with the Knowledge Owner to develop a strategic innovation map for product consistent with global business

- Follow established NPI/innovation procedures

- Create presentations, pitches to budget holders for investment opportunity in new product ideas including costings and resources needed

- define product targets, timings, costings and system requirements. Monitor the plan, create contingency plans and manage risk appropriately

- Work with internal engineers and external suppliers to design prototypes - electronics, pcbs and software

- Create working demonstrator of concept and present

- Create validation plan for prototype so a proof of concept is created

What you will need:

- Degree or HNC in electronics

- Practical electronics skills - bread/vero boarding, scopes, soldering, prototypes, Canalyzer, Canoe

- Experience in innovation, advanced engineering, NPI would be advantageous..as would automotive engineering

- Be eligible to work in UK without sponsorship

What you will get:

- permanent position in a small and friendly, but large automotive organisation

- extremely interesting and varied work - (not just doing schematics or circuit design)

- lots of client involvement
