This specialist SME manufacturer is providing niche products to multiple sectors across the UK and beyond. They have recently gone through a period of change and due to an upturn in demand, we are looking to recruit a Group Head of Procurement to be responsible for all direct and indirect categories and services that come into the plant.

As Group Head of Procurement, you will take responsibility for the Company’s procurement function, actively participate in the buying as required. The role is both hands on and strategic in its approach as you will form part of the senior management team. There is also an opportunity for you to review and make important changes to the procurement process, including the supplier strategy, development and recruitment of a purchasing function.

You will be responsible for ensuring the efficiency and cost effectiveness of the purchasing process within the organisation including setting purchasing policies, managing purchasing budgets and the overall management of the purchasing processes.

The role also involves setting and facilitating the overall purchasing strategy of the organisation.

Fundamentals of the role:

  • To supervise, control, assist in buying and manage the operation of the purchasing department, taking responsibility for all procurement activities in accordance with Company procedures.
  • To operate and manage the purchasing budget across both sites, including managing costs.
  • Development of the Company’s Supply base, consistent with growing demand and changing needs.
  • Manage the companies supply base paying particular attention to quality, cost, and on-time delivery.
  • Help to devise a purchasing strategy looking specifically at current processes and make the relevant improvement/recommendations as appropriate.
  • Identification and assessment of suitable vendors in accordance with Company procedures.
  • Review and reporting of vendor performance in line with the requirements of the Company Management System.
  • To ensure all activities associated with the procurement of materials, parts, equipment and services against requisitioned needs and specifications are carried out in and efficient and effective manner.
  • To operate a central point of contact between the Company and its Suppliers.
  • Maintenance of the Company’s Vendor Register in liaison with the Quality Department
  • Continual review of the Company’s trading terms and conditions of purchase on a general and specific basis, consistent with prevailing legislation, contract requirements and Company policy.
  • To provide current and forecast market information in respect of price levels and lead-times to support the Company’s estimating activities.
  • Manage and report on the department’s performance against key performance indicators.
  • Have an active and influential input into the Company MRP programme to develop the systems and processes.
  • Communicate effectively with managers, engineers, administrators, and sales representatives within the business.

Key results areas:

  • Maintenance of a supply base to meet the Company’s current and future needs
  • Procurement of materials, parts, equipment, and services meeting the Company’s technical and commercial requirements
  • Delivery of all procured items to an acceptable quality, on time and within the agreed budget
