Title: Fastener Engineer
Contract Position based at: Dunton
Rate - £23 per hour LTD rate (which equals £18.13/hour PAYE rate) INSIDE IR35
Lead strategic alignment/governance of fastener commodity usage for vehicle applications on European led programs assembled worldwide. Lead direction of FSP's to ensure FE/program requirements are met and responsibilities as detailed in the Engineering Statement of Work are fulfilled. Support cross-functional teams (Manufacturing, PD, PVT, Purchase, Suppliers, STA) to deliver robust and timely solutions to fastener commodity related cross car-line prototype/production assembly issues, ensuring GPDS deliverables/quality objectives are met at all times. Support mechanical testing/corrosion activities, including technical investigations relating to fastener usage issues. This will involve liaising with technicians, overseeing test work preparation/completion, prioritising work tasks and interacting with FE's customer base. Support technical delivery against core activities (cross-program complexity, joint design optimisation, part count and weight reduction activities) within the FE team to ensure process discipline and optimise operational efficiency. Identify new initiatives and support implementation of enhancements to FE tools/work practices to deliver departmental quality improvements and optimisation of FE's involvement in program delivery.
Support the Global Fastener Standards team to:
- Develop, revise and review Worldwide Fastener Standards/Specifications;
- Rationalise the introduction of New Fastener Part Numbers;
- Maintain FE input in Part Library e.g. OK-TO-USE lists and active/inactive part list. Support all TVM activities, including cross car-line benchmarking/line-walk events and presenting opportunities in report-out sessions when required. Participate in Global forums/Senior Leadership meetings and support implementation of new Global strategies/novel fastener technologies on new and existing vehicle programs.
Relevant degree or have completed one third of formal study towards degree course and commitment to complete studies, or equivalent experience. Understanding of fasteners/joint design, their influence on component/system level design/performance and the importance of optimising cost, quality and performance attributes. Knowledge of fastener test methods and root cause analysis techniques for investigating component assembly &/or fastener usage issues. Knowledge of GPDS and Ford processes/systems/quality tools, in particular those used by FE e.g. AIMS, FEDEBoM, WERS. Proficient in MS Office applications. Excellent oral and written communication, presentation, negotiation, coaching, leadership and interpersonal skills.
Basic knowledge of Fasteners.
Joint design fundamentals.
