Engineering Team Lead - Aerospace and Defence

Permanent - Milton Keynes Area - Attractive

An opportunity has arisen for an Engineering Team Lead to join an Aerospace and Defence Research Organisation within the Milton Keynes area. The successful Engineering Team Lead will join the Engineering Team and will play an integral part in the operation, maintenance, and repair of the company's testing facilities.

The Engineering Team is a multi-disciplined team of electrical and mechanical technicians who operate, maintain, and repair equipment and facilities with a balance of plant, across two shifts. The Engineering Team Lead will report to the Engineering Manager and will be responsible for a shift team, ensuring efficient deployment of their team's efforts across the site.

The Engineering Team Lead may be from either an electrical or mechanical background and will have an adequate understanding of disciplines outside their own area to manage activities on Rotating Plant, Motors, Fans, Compressors, Hydraulic Systems, Electrical Actuators, Pneumatic Systems, Low Voltage and HV Systems, Cooling Systems, Water Pumps, Heat Exchangers, Air Drying Systems, Control Systems and Lubrication Systems.

Responsibilities of the Engineering Team Lead

  • Lead, motivate and manage a team of mixed-discipline technicians.
  • Provide efficient maintenance, repair, and facility running.
  • Manage team's workloads and prioritisation ensuring a continued high output.
  • Training and coaching, and hands-on involvement in tasks.
  • Ensure safe and effective operations of both the team and hired contract staff.
  • Observance of Quality, Health and Safety, Environmental standards, and procedures.
  • Monitor task related ticketing system and associated KPIs.
  • Determine priorities for the team and ensure the workload is adequately planned
  • Identify and engage with certified contractors in areas of the site.

Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills Required for the Engineering Team Lead

  • HNC Electrical, Mechanical, or related discipline, or equivalent relevant industry experience.
  • Proven track record of managing and supervising a team of multi-discipline technicians.
  • Self-motivated and able to take initiative in solving site issues.
  • Strong coaching and training skills, and willingness to work hands-on, alongside team.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of employees.
  • Effective handover of tasks between shifts.
  • Respond to maintenance requests (computer ticket requests, emails & word of mouth).
  • Understanding of the need for documentation such as Engineering Change Records.
  • Recording of works performed and ensure compliance of Quality Systems.
  • Familiarity with safety aspects of mains electricity, confined spaces, and working at height.
  • Computer literacy including standard office software, such as Outlook and Excel.
