Role- Engineering Team Lead

Salary- Up to £40k depending upon experience

Location- Bedford

Working hours- These roles are shift working on two shifts from 0630 to 1430hrs and 1400hrs to 2200hrs Monday to Friday

We are currently recruiting 2 x Engineering Team Leads to work for a unique SME with a passionate workforce of engineering and aerodynamic professionals. Our client are a leading specialist in aerodynamic research providing complementary services and solutions to international aerospace and defence clients. Our clients include Saab, Bombardier, Boeing, Turkish Aerospace, Lockheed Martin, Airbus, Comac and BAE Systems.

The successful candidates be responsible for providing efficient maintenance and facility running and will have a dominant skillset such as electrical or mechanical as well as have an adequate understanding of disciplines outside their own area to manage these activities

Main duties and responsibilities as an Engineering Team lead:

  • Lead, motivate and manage a team of mixed-discipline fitters providing efficient maintenance and facility running.
  • Manage the team's workloads and prioritisation ensuring a continued high output, as well as staff management, training and direction, including hands-on involvement in tasks.
  • Ensure safe and effective operations of both the team and hired contract staff
  • Ensure the forward workload is adequately planned and resourced ensuring efficiency with no delays
  • Generate and monitor KPI's of team activities, determine reasons for shortfalls in delivery and identify and implement improvements
  • Identify and engage with certified specialists in areas such as asbestos or HV switching
  • Understand, comply with and promote ARA's security and cyber security requirements.
  • Monitor task related ticketing system (PIRANA) and determine priorities for the team
  • Where appropriate, hands-on input will be required with direct involvement in maintenance tasks.
  • Observe ARA Quality Standards and Health and Safety procedures.

The successful candidate for our Technical Author role will have the following skills & experience:

  • Proventrack record of managing a team of mixed technical disciplines, extracting best performance and ensuring the team delivers appropriate and reliable information.
  • Self-motivated and able to take initiative in solving site issues.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of employees, maintaining close operational cooperation with other teams including effective handover of tasks between shifts.
  • Maintain professionalism and discipline within the team including completion of risk assessments, team output quality, ongoing effort levels and recording of works performed.
  • Respond effectively to facility maintenance requests using computer based ticket requests, emails and word of mouth.
  • Actively participate in various manual or admin tasks around site as required
  • Understanding of the need for documentation such as Engineering Change Records, and ensuring compliance of ARA Quality Systems.
  • Familiarity with of safety aspects of working with a range of hazards (eg mains electricity, confined spaces, working at height), and respecting dangers of specialist systems (eg high pressure air and high voltages)
  • Computer literacy including standard office software, such as Outlook and Excel, and also the ability to use specialist software (eg PIRANA).
